The JLP will have 34 seats in the house, the PNP 29 and the other parties and the independents 0. There is a need for another strong party in Jamaica. These new and developing parties should understand that politics is politics, and they have to learn how to deal with it. First, you cannot form a party and just get a team of persons to represent various constituencies at election time. No sanky, no sing-so. You have to build your profile and earn the love and respect of people over a period of time.
It seems that once again, my predictions were SpotOn. Whether you are a JLP or not, we must admit that the JLP has done well in several areas of national life, and a change in government at this time would be catastrophic for the nation. Not that the PNP would ruin things, but I feel that we have reached a stage where we must continue to build on some of the achievements of our country before changing the government.
I said in a previous blog that it is the Holness pull factor that has given the JLP the edge over the last few months. Some of its leaders made the job of the PM very difficult. The PNP put up a good fight, but it has to deal with its leadership issues. That will not go away. The PNP should consider encouraging Lisa Hanna and others to return to the party's centre stage.
The next government should concentrate on ensuring that those in the public sector do their work. Public servants must understand what it means to give good customer service or pack their bags and go. The first public sector entity the government must look into is the National Works Agency, which I call the National Wutless Agency. If we should judge the NWA by how it fixes and maintains our roads, then that agency is a dismal failure. We should take a look at how we maintained roads in the days of the PWD (Public Works Department)
The next government should concentrate on building Jamaica to make it the greatest little country in the world. PM, please thank the JLP supporters for supporting you and thank the PNP supporters for being involved in the democratic process. Encourage those who stayed away from the democratic process to get involved, not just on election day but every day.
Let's commit to creating a sustainable environment with an educated and enlightened people who understand their civic duty. Let's build a country where there is respect for law and order. Let's stop talking about the minimum wage and talk about the maximum wage for maximum productivity and production. Let us stop this nasty practice of employing persons on contract for many years and depriving them of their pension, health benefits, and time to take a break from the job. This is modern-day slavery.
Mr. PM, extend the parliament to the people. Share your ideas with them and take ideas from them. If you do this, you will have less opposition to promoting progressive ideas for the benefit of the people. Prosperity is not a word for the JLP alone, but a word that should be made into reality for all of Jamaica.
The nation not only gave you a third term, but it gave you a third chance to make Jamaica even better.
Congratulations to the Honourable Dr. Andrew Holness and his party. Congratulations also to the leadership of the PNP and their supporters for a good fight. A fight which was generally peaceful.
Editor's Note
This blog will be sent to the Most Honourable Dr. Andrew Holness. Please add your comments below for the PM to read it.

My dream became a reality... an election in Jamaica π―π² where no Jamaican lost a life because of political violence, now I feel like this is independence where we are finally thinking for ourselves!

Congratulations to Dr. Holness and the JLP. They deserved to win. I am disappointed with some of the losses, notably Ann Marie Vaz and some of the seats in St. Thomas. I mentioned these areas because the evidence of the work of the JLP was potent and visible for all to see in these areas. What is it that Jamaicans want? What more could an MP like Ann-Marie Vaz do to win her seat? They gave up hardworking Ann for a former drug felon. I am tired of living with the consequences of the poor decisions of others.
ReplyDeleteWe rewarded the PNP for their obstructionist and tear-down politics. I bet they now feel emboldened to continue that kind of behaviour. They obstructed the states of emergency because they couldn't risk crime going down under the JLP. They attempted to obstruct the school buses as well.
Nevertheless, I agree with you Mr. D. The JLP needs to take its policies to the people and breakdown the issues so that people can understand and to help them to see the connection between what they are doing and its impact on their everyday lives. Mr Patterson did a similar initiative with his Live and Direct meetings. Such interactions would give the government an opportunity to hear directly what the issues of the people are, to let constituents feel as if they are being heard and to communicate the government’s intentions for their community. I believe that in the face of the PNP's expected obstructionist tactic, this may be a good offence.
Good morning to Sir Vernon for giving us this golden opportunity to air our concerns in such a special way. Congratulations πto the Prime Minister of our beloved island π and I would love to thank the leader of Opposition party, for such humble speech in such a nail biting close election. Please in the mighty name of Yeshua. Let us build our country in unity and Peace. Can we ask our Prime Minister to tell the All the Hotel π© owners to stop tell our hotel workers that they are not allowed to take tips. That is so back a wall! To our tourism leader Mr Edd Bartlett. Can you please tell our managers in our hotels. Needs to put a very special team in place. Who can spot very good talents. Instead of throwing away our documents for that position, why not suggest a similar position or recommend them to another hotel π© that is near by. Instead of being so disorganised and so out of touch with simple tactics that can be renovated and let the industry run very smoothly.
