Should The Doctor Be Interdicted Because He Represented a Political Party?

There have been discussions on social media and elsewhere about public servants being involved in party politics. The regulation regarding this matter has been part of the Staff Orders for many years. If this were not a part of the regulations, then many civil servants would be directly involved in politics.

Let me advise our political leaders and political parties to be careful of what they post on the Internet. An interdiction is what it is. What is unfair about it? Was a rule broken? If the answer is yes, then interdiction will follow.

If those who have the power to deal with broken rules fail to do so, this would be a form of corruption and unfairness.

Have a look at the post below.

If you condemn the state for acting within the law, then one might assume that you are corrupt. Lock up the ackee tief, but leave others to do what they want to do. No sah, no sankey, no sing so

The Civil Service Staff Orders state that no civil servant should be involved in any political activity. If you publish an article about a political matter, you could also find yourself in big trouble.

If we don't like the law, then take it to the people and let them lobby for it to be changed.

It is stated clearly in section 4.2.6 of the Staff Order that officers are not to engage in partisan matters.

One might take this matter up to the Privy Council level, but what matters in reality is how the government will deal with one of its staff spouting anti-government sentiments

If you berate your company, you should start looking for a new job. A party is in power, and you join another party that is seeking state power? Where does your commitment lie?

Notwithstanding what I have written, I would humbly suggest that the doctor be rehired in the near future.

  1. From observation over the years I have seen teachers who became councillors and nothing happened.

  2. The rule has been in place for many moons. The young doctor did not observe them and the party he represented failed to do its due dilligence in vetting its prospective candidates, because if they had; this outcome would be avoided. Now instead of acknowledging the error and apologizing for inadvertently overlooking such an important rule, they choose to condemn the enforcers. What does their action tell you? We need to respect the laws. We cannot have a free for all country

    1. Is the staff order a law?

    2. If the staff order is not in breach of a law nor the constitution then it is the law of the workplace. The same thing applies to educational institution for example. The organization has the obligation to investigate, have a hearing on the matter and allow the alleged offender to present their side of the story. The union or the association which the worker is a member of can represent the worker.

The PNP used the same law against the JLP candidates in the past. How little do they forget. There Spokeswoman on Justice is bright and has been a lawyer for 15 years. Her position on this is not justified. Too partisan and not properly reasoned. Wheel and come again. Blessings 😇 🌞

    1. The constitution is the supreme law of the land but real power is people power and the people can change the constitution and not vice versa.

    2. Given that the constitution is the supreme law then the staff order cannot stand against it. he was making use of his constitutional right

    3. Rights given in the Constitution are not absolute. The Staff Order regulation has been breached; therefore, the relevant authority has to act. The doctor can take the matter to court. He was out campaigning, and he might have been missing from work. It might have been missing from his job, and his superiors decided to take action. There was a doctor who was busy campaigning and he spent much time in the rum bar. I got a few complaints about him.
