| Jimmy Cliff OJ |
The iconic reggae artist and actor, Jimmy Cliff, has died. Jimmy Cliff has taken the music and the culture of our people to the world.
As a youngster facing various challenges, I remember him bursting into song at the Carib Theatre, performing his signature song, 'Many Rivers To Cross.' I identified with the words of the song, and I felt the tears streaming down my face while he performed.
We pray that we will have young artists coming up who will develop and follow in Jimmy's footsteps. Artistes who will create and perform music that will uplift the spirit of the people and encourage our people to live a life of love and caring for one another.
To his family and friends, I say give thanks. Jimmy Cliff came on this earth, and he served his country and the world with distinction. May his soul rest in peace.

ReplyDeleteThe 40s was a watershed period for the Jamaican culture as many musical greats were born in that golden decade. We mourn, not only because they are gone, but also because we are very much aware that real artistry gets buried with them. Sadly, what is left as so-called music, leaves much to be desired. SIGH...Rest in Peace, Jimmy. We will certainly miss you. Much condolences to his family.
