May I share an idea close to my heart: Could we try to give the head of the Private Sector Organization the idea to consider to rally that all the stores and business places shall not spend any money on Christmas decorations, but donate the money instead to families who urgently need help.

Ideas On How To Construct Places For Animals And Possible Human Beings That Can Withstand Hurricanes

UTech should look at this construction technique and come up with a housing solution that can withstand hurricanes and earthquakes.

For houses, they could look at the possibility of using plastic sheets screwed down to the frame to form the outside of the building.

Note also that the country needs to produce an electronic map outlining, for example, where houses should be built. This map should identify flood-prone areas and areas where land slippage is likely to happen. 

We must act now with creative ideas. If Melissa had touched down in Kingston, the devastation would have made the Port Royal Earthquake look like a joke. Think of the hundreds living on the gully banks in Kingston. Think of those living in those plywood houses and those old buildings downtown. The time to act and to do things differently is now! 

Form Parish Disaster Oversight Committee Now

We need to have Parish Disaster Oversight Committees now. These committees would be responsible for the storage and distribution of relief items. We need to move away from Kingston controlling everything. The people in the affected parishes, if given support they can help themselves.

The committee would be responsible for setting up large water storage tanks, especially in remote areas.

Areas should be reserved where tents can be set up for the homeless.

Camping stoves that use liquid gas should be distributed so that people can prepare hot meals for themselves.

I have not heard about those ready-to-eat meals  (Called MRE) used in the army. Why are we not distributing MREs?. These could be stored at a central point to be distributed by the Oversight Committee. The security of such relief items would have to be taken into consideration. The ad hoc distribution of relief items should not be encouraged as a long-term measure. 

This is not the time to look for officials from Kingston; this is the time for the people to be empowered to help themselves. They have already started.

Tune Out The Trouble Makers

Tune out the trouble makers, especially those who post fake information on the Internet. We must not forget those traitors who are encouraging people not to send things to help the poor, suffering people in our country. This includes those who have written to members of the UK Privy Council and King Charles advising them not to donate funds to Jamaica. One was on social media claiming success that the UK government was not sending any funding. Stupid - All countries are willing to help their friend, Jamaica. These wicked people should give up their Jamaican citizenship. Jamaica does not need traitors.

My people, let's think less about the challenges and think more about the solutions. Organize yourself to get things done and spend less time complaining. Ignore those who are fighting to become more notorious than Melissa. This too shall pass.

PS People lose things at ports of entry in other countries. Jamaica is not the only country with thieves. Next time, check the contents of your shipment before you leave the port of entry. Social media cannot find lost items after you have left the port of entry. You should also check to ensure that what is on the airway bill is what was shipped.

I am confused about that stolen stove. I wonder if that stove was to be given to a homeless Melissa victim or if it was for sale. It would be interesting to ascertain what is coming in these shipments. Next thing you hear is that somebody lost his gun during Melissa, and he asked that another one be sent for him in a barrel.
