I just got word that a truck on its way to Westmoreland overturned in Mammee Bay, St. Ann. It is important to note that with firemen busy trying to get out those who were trapped in the truck, many were busy trying to help themselves to the relief items.
This is an example of people showing that they have no respect for the state or the poor people for whom the supplies were intended. This is happening too often now. Pictures should be taken of these persons in the act, and action taken against them. If there is a feeling that you can get away with doing certain things, people will do anything.
The state must lead, and the state must manage, or else chaos will be the order of the day.
Please note that this incident has not been confirmed by the police.

This looting behaviour must stop! As Vernon says, if the police can identify persons in the act of looting such persons should be charged, and I suggest they serve a community service sentence.
ReplyDeleteWhere is our heart, our concern, the supplies is for our Melissa ravaged brothers and sisters! Come on Jamaicans!!
This is so heartbreaking. Here in Jamaica and across the world people are trying to help us but with this kind of behaviour & hooliganism I wouldn't be surprised if some just stop
ReplyDeleteThis didn't start with Melissa, this mentality is more pervasive than we realise/ care to admit. People are starving, thirsty, exposed to the elements, sick, living in subhuman conditions and these criminals are depriving them of help? My God!
It hurts me to see they wouldn't even help the firemen. It's more greed than hunger to me. Hungry people can't lift cases of water and move so fast.
That is why those who are to Govern MUST govern - curtail the theft at airports, wharf, etc as well.
I feel so ashamed for my people. May God help us.
Simply disgusting behavior
