JPS Press Release - November 30, 2025
(Kingston, November 29, 2025) Persons in areas impacted by Hurricane Melissa must ensure that their properties are safe to receive electrical power. Homes and businesses affected by flooding, heavy winds and structural damage of any kind whatsoever, should be examined by a licensed electrician to ensure that they are safe for reconnection to the power grid.
“A licensed electrician will advise you of your next steps, and if you need to be recertified by the Government Electrical Regulator (GER) to ensure that your premises meet the safety standards for receiving electricity,” the Company urged.
Hurricane Melissa, an unprecedented Category 5 storm system, made landfall on Jamaica on October 28, leaving a trail of destruction.
Customers are being reminded that electrical safety standards for private properties are monitored and approved by the Government Electrical Regulator.

I just got news that The Hon. Dorothy Pine-McLarty has passed on. The Prime Minister on his social media page said the following:
"Mrs Pine-McLarty dedicated her life to strengthening our democracy, upholding integrity, and serving the Jamaican people with courage and grace. She was a truly exceptional attorney. In 1973, Mrs Pine-McLarty became the first woman partner of Myers, Fletcher & Gordon. She was later appointed as the first managing partner of their London office. She is also Jamaica's first woman Chair of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica and a public servant in the truest sense. Mrs Pine-McLarty also served as a director of several corporate boards.I extend deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all Jamaicans whose lives were touched by her service. May her soul rest in peace."

Can a person change his/her life for the better? It's not a good thing to throw shades all the time.
ReplyDeletePeople do change for the better. Our systems are not designed for this. I have been to the Bellevue Hospital and thinking this place will make patients more depressed and miserable than uplifting. Likewise the prisons. The systems should be for rehabilitation for betterment. Sometimes people get in trouble because of lack of education, proper home training. Children having children etc. children born because of one night stand and so on. They deserve a chance. People make mistakes. Is there any one among us who is perfect?????
ReplyDeleteJamaicans are desperately rebuilding their homes, starting over at just 1… How inconsiderate to be reminded of building permits now? Mayor of Montego Bay has reminded them of such! I can’t fathom it. Inhumane. Those should be WAIVED!
ReplyDeleteWaive building permits so when the next category 1 hurricane comes the people are back at square one?
DeleteI doubt anyone would be so foolish. The point is NOBODY has money, they desperately need food and a place to sleep!!!! How on earth will they pay for building permits??!!!!
DeleteThere are so many things happening, life is dynamic, constantly evolving, no pause.
ReplyDeleteWe pray for Ms. Jamaica Universe- Gabby, Chris, Bounty, the Melissa affected families, our Govt officials, incarcerated persons and the list goes on.
When someone is incarcerated, serves the sentence and is released he/she deserves to return to society and be given a second chance, we all need a second chance sometimes a third!
Forgiveness is a Biblical command. Let us be more humane, more tolerant, more thoughtful. IF everyone who has done some wrong were to be singled out and placed behind bars very few of us would be walking free today. . . Let him without sin cast the first stone!!
Please let us be more understanding and let us lend a helping hand BEFORE the prison doors are slammed shut!
God Bless You and God Bless Jamaica 🇯🇲
Please note that the section of the article talking about criminals said nothing about not giving people a second chance. It talks about making criminals feel as if they are stars when they commit a crime. It speaks about being proud by showing off how you are in prison. I know of specific repeat criminals. Who have been given chances. When one think of giving criminals a chance one has to balance that with the harm that repeat criminals can do to others. It is wrong for society to turn ex-convicts into stars who have given no indication that they have changed. Please try your best not to misinterpret my posts.
