I have started to get reports about murder cases that have gone cold. This story I got today is a sad story about what someone sees as a cover-up by members of the police force. The person probably has the wrong impression, but the JCF has a responsibility to reassure this person that all was done to bring the offender to justice.
Rohan Sharpe was murdered on December 16, 2022. He was the managing director for Payless Distributors. The person making this report claims that the police knew who killed Sharpe and were actively pursuing the case until they saw the killer's bankbook loaded with the millions of dollars she embezzled from the dead man. She would make the SSL matter look like chicken feed. Members of the family suspect that she paid off the police because the matter is not being pursued with the same vigour as in the early days of the case.
The police need to reach out to this family and update them on the investigations.
I said before that approximately 45,000 persons have been murdered between 1976 and 2025. One could reasonably infer that there are thousands of murderers in Jamaica walking about because very few persons have been arrested and convicted for these murders. I would not be surprised if your husband, your wife, your brother or any relative, your pastor, your MP, members of the judiciary, and others are walking around like decent, honest people who are indeed murderers.
I cannot forget while talking to some men in Halfway, one said to me, "Missa Derby yu tink say we no know say a yu." I subsequently learnt that two of them were murderers, one of whom was my past student!
Someone just sent me this message:
Remember the partially sighted UWI student who went to Papine to take the bus and was never seen again. Madam Rose Leon...I don't remember anyone being charged. The KC student shot in the taxi etc etc.
Let me have these stories of those murders that have gone cold. The police have a database of those cold cases? Send your stories by WhatsApp at (876) 816-5261.
Commissioner Kevin Blake, please address this issue.
