Well-known American civil rights leader and politician Jesse Jackson has died. He was 84 years old. No reason has been given for his death, but he has had Parkinson's disease.
He was a Baptist minister and a three-time presidential candidate. Jackson was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and became prominent in the civil rights movement. A protégé of the late Rev. Martin Luther King JR. he participated in demonstrations alongside the Rev. King.
Jackson will be remembered for standing up for the poor, Blacks, and working-class people through his organization, the Rainbow Coalition.
