After watching the TVJ news about the bullying that took place last week, Tuesday at Jamaica College, the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth, and Information must step in to ascertain what is happening at Jamaica College and the other educational institutions.
We need answers to the following questions:
- How many incidents of physical altercation have taken place in all schools?
- Who are the students who have been involved?
- How many of these cases have been reported to the police?
- What action has the police taken?
- What measures has the school implemented to address instances of student-on-student assault?
- What compensation have the physically hurt students received?
- Are these students who are guilty of abusing other students still attending the school?
The students involved in the challenge at Jamaica College should be removed from the school immediately pending an internal and an external investigation.
The guilty students should be sent to a reformatory school to work and to receive counseling. They should receive caning in their hands when they are admitted to the reformatory school.
A children's court should handle all cases of crime committed by young students. Schools are supposed to address breaking school rules and not crimes. The young criminals should face fines, which their parents should cover, and/or they should be sent to a reformatory school. Taxpayers cannot continue to pay for criminals in our schools.
I hope the mother sues the school and the ministry for duty of care and also the parents of the boys involved in the bullying. Other parents should assist this child's parents in meeting financial expenses. The next time it could be your child coming home sightless, or you having to identify the body at the morgue.

This needs to stop it is wrong👹
ReplyDeleteThe behavior of the young men involved in this incident are reprehensible, disgusting and disturbing. Even more so is the nonchalance of the principal, as his actions/ nonaction can be misconstrued as facilitatory, hence the frequency and continued gangsterism at the school.
ReplyDeleteSir Derby I agree with every word you said parents should start to sue the school and the parent of the BULLIES These are the same ones leave school and come turn gun men because they never put a stop to it from early
ReplyDeleteI saw the article a few days ago and was shocked by the incident and the nonchalant approach by the Principal this is a police matter and I endorse everything you said Mr Derby
ReplyDeleteParents send their children to school to be educated not to be terrorized by others. All bullies need to be removed and placed together in an institution of their own.
ReplyDeletePeople, there was an update to this story as it didn't happen the way it was reported. It is important that we get the facts.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.jamaicaobserver.com/2026/04/01/jamaica-college-clarifies-misleading-media-account-reported-school-assault/
There will be variations to the real story. What is important is whether or not student or students were hurt by other students. Was any crime committed? People will be giving there version of the story. Let the police carry out its own investigation and the DPP rule on the matter. That will take care of the crime that was allegedly committed. The parents of those children who suffered injury has the right to take civil actions and deal with the damages. The school administration has to have its own investigation. Thanks to the media for highlighting this matter which I gather is not a rare matter at the school.
ReplyDeleteI saw where it was reported in the Jamaica Gleaner dated November 27, 2017, that 17-year-old Martiman Golding was stabbed to death on the school compound by one of his schoolmates. I am sure that my readers, who should include past students, can recall other stories of violent student behaviour involving Jamaica College students.
