Cricket great Sir Garfield Sobers has died.
The statement on NCN Sport states:
Legendary former West Indian cricketer, Sir Garfield Sobers, has died at the age of 89.
Sobers, a Barbadian cricket icon, played 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, amassing 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78. He also took 235 wickets, cementing his place in history as one of the greatest all-rounders ever produced.
At one point, Sobers’ unbeaten 365 against Pakistan in 1958, was the highest individual Test score until it was broken in 1994 by Brian Lara.
He also captained the West Indies team from 1965 to 1972.
