Hang The Murderers And Save Taxpayers Millions Of Dollars

Contributed

Michael Spence

I believe in straight execution for murder because that is more cost-effective. It costs the Jamaican taxpayers approximately USD15,000 per year to keep a healthy prisoner.

Do the math and tell me. 30 years × USD15,000 = USD450,000 at JAD159 to USD1 = JAD71,550,000.

That's what Zeeks' sentences will cost the Jamaican taxpayer. It would be more cost-effective to keep him under house arrest in one of his own homes, with the state paying for his security; he is a billionaire with a multiplicity of businesses. He has to serve 10 more years. Save US$150,000 or approximately JAD24,000,000.

Preserving the lives of murderers is a senseless waste of resources. Tell me what JAD71.55 million could do for our Jamaica.

Aren't we RATHER STUPID? Look out a yuh two eye!

The last two persons hanged in Jamaica were from Bethel Town in South East Westmoreland in 1988 for the killing of a decent one-eyed community boxer. He was a good man; I knew him.

In the earlier days, it was dishonorable to fight with weapons. You used your own strength and power.

Editor's Note

This is a very interesting article, and its contents should be discussed by our political leaders in parliament. We should look at the reduction of custodial sentences and allow non-dangerous criminals to serve their time doing community work such as cleaning the gullies and breaking stones to fix our roads.

  1. I wonder if the lawmakers and politicians are hoping to get prisoners votes.

  2. This is not how the cost should be calculated. When correctly done, it costs more to execute someone than to incarcerate them. Life sentences without the possibility of parole or even a criminal asylum model a la Arkham from the Barman shows actually makes more sense. Plus what difference or deterence is the sentence if the podsibility of being caught and successfully prosecuted is almost non-existent? If criminals were not celebrated and feted by their families and communities but instead disowned and ostracized and disavowed like in Japan, then criminal behaviors in general would be less attractive. If crimunal proceeds were subjected to forfeiture and distribution to victims then we would be effectively dealing with criminal behaviors and functioning likre a thinking society, instead of bawling and calling up on a merciless, uncaring flying white transvestite to do something about what we allow by our own behaviors!

Who ever hang the murder will become a murderer too. Death is not penalty for a killer because just like who he kills he dont know that he is dead nor feel any pain. Who is hurt is who are alive suffering the lost of a love one.
Penalty can only be administered ti who is alive. The best penalty for a murderer is torture.

  4. Murder the murderer - you become one! Most Jamaican inmates are in poor health, so if those figures are to be accurate, where's the money going? 🤔
Jamaica has laws without enforcement. That's a REAL matter! Executing alleged criminals fixes NOTHING! With our CORRUPT system, MANY innocent would be executed! I close by saying, Murder the murderer - Jamaican would have very few politicians as MANY are murderers themselves‼️

  5. Indeed. It is very unwise to put it mildly, to cede the ultimate power of death to politicians. Remember that our judicial system here is also inhumane, classist and highly corrupt. Giving them another weapon to use against those in society that do not fit their concept of a normal or good person is foolhardy, dangerous and a potential tool they will deploy against any one of us fbecause of ideological or socioeconomic reasons.
