Look Out For That Weather Disturbance

There is a disturbance off the western coast of Senegal, and we will be watching that one. There is a 10 per cent probability it could develop within the next two days.

When you travel around Jamaica, there are massive trees close to homes and also to power lines. Many people believe that if a tree is close to a power line, it is the responsibility of the JPS to cut such trees.  JPS will deenergize its lines to facilitate the cutting back of such trees, but it is your responsibility to cut back trees on your property.

There are some massive mango trees close to homes in Kingston. If there is a hurricane, these trees pose a danger to homes and other buildings.

We should not climb those tall mango trees that are close to power lines. A puff of wind or the weight of your body can cause the tree to come into contact with the power lines, and your life will be short-circuited.

ODPEM could work with the JPSCo, NSWMA, and communities to organize the cutting back of those tall trees. There ought to be a law against having trees above a certain height in residential areas. That is something that the Parliament should discuss.

On another matter, I understand that some schoolboys left a football training camp to have a swim in the sea off the St. Thomas coast. If the boys knew that they would end up being caned, expelled from the football team, or expelled from the school, they would not take the chance. I now appreciate those tough school sanctions for breaking the rules when I was in high school. Probably that is why many of us are alive today!
