There are too many people having challenges with the private and public sectors. I cannot do what I used to do before. It means that when I guide people in terms of what to do, and they do not listen, then they are on their own. Both the government and the private sector need to put more emphasis on giving clients and customers better service.
I have been getting a few complaints about the failure of the NHT to resolve matters brought to its attention. In April 2026, a teacher made a report to me. I ended up with the same problems she was having. Staff promised to return calls, and they never did. I have written an email to the Chairman of the NHT, Mr Linval Freeman, which is published below.
Good day, Mr Freeman:I have forwarded these messages sent to the head of the NHT since April, 2026, seeking your assistance in getting a resolution. The client has been in touch with the NHT for over a year about the same matter. This type of customer service not only reflects poorly on you as chairman but also on the Prime Minister, who is the responsible portfolio minister. I have received several other complaints verbally about responses from the NHT.The NHT needs to have a tracking system for customer complaints. The board should require that it receive an aged analysis report of outstanding customer complaints monthly. Our NHT contributors deserve better. All the best.Vernon L. Derby
Jamaicans must demand better. We seem to be getting poorer customer service by the day. Please add your comments to the blog.

Definitely had to register my bark on this article! For a company that once copped the top customer service awards, it is now a mere shadow of its former glory. They aggressively pursue delinquent mortgagors, even for a small amount, but drag their feet on responding to repair requests. What a sad situation in Unions Estates - leaking roofs, walls, windows, trowel-on that resembles severe eczema, to name a few. Mortgagors' complaints fall on deaf ears! They should be renamed - Never Hear Them with the slogan, where your requests are always under construction!
ReplyDeleteSo true Mr Derby when it come to costomers service it's very poor in Jamaica .
ReplyDeleteI’ve had a very different experience — after many years of dealing with NHT (applying for loans, receiving funds, and getting refunds) I haven’t had a single bad experience. Their service has been consistently reliable and efficient, so I feel compelled to share this positive feedback.
ReplyDeleteI must add my voice to this one as I have been saying for years that the NHT model is not working. Their top executives for example are paid handsomely - filthy rich, and their staff receive mortgage benefits, all at the expense of thousands of Jamaicans whose earnings are taxed at source to pay NHT but they do not qualify for a mortgage. This cannot be right. The NHT should be bending over backwards to serve their customers whom they live off of like parasites. The current NHT model is well overdue for a revaluation and overall so it can serve its intended purpose because it ain't working.
