| PM Andy Burnham |
The BBC reports the following today:
Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he is "open" to the possibility of the UK formally apologising for its role in the transatlantic slave trade, but has ruled out financial reparations.
He said he wanted a "dialogue with those affected" and was open to "calls for an apology", but said reparations were "not the right answer".
What this means is it is all just about a talk. An apology and a talk would be a complete waste of time.
What the Prime Minister missed is that it is not about the British people being held accountable for nasty, cruel, and wicked crimes during a period when some heinous deeds were committed. It is about a country that benefited from the atrocities committed during slavery and a country that was built with the sweat of slaves. The country existed during slavery, and it still exists now. Britain has a responsibility to even do something to right that wrong.
Mark my words, nothing will be done about it until there is a new generation of British people who think differently.
They can keep their apology. Mout mek fi say anyting.
