Where Is Jamaica Heading

By Michael Spence

Michael Spence

The most I will say about this Digicel building occupancy is that it is a callous and horrific disgrace. People in Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth are still eking out survival under tents after Hurricane Melissa's devastation. OMG, Prime Minister, do better than that.

NaRRA, what is it, a Capital Fund, a reconstruction Bond for 4th-term loading, or what?

Calling Edward Seaga and Michael Manley spirits to the rescue. Then PJ Patterson and Bruce Golding can become volunteer consultants to help save/rebuild Jamaica.

Now the second poorest in the Caribbean according to IMF projections for 2026, with a per capita GDP of US$8356 and Haiti the poorest at US$3079.

Is Jamaica being recolonized by the slave drivers of a brutish/murderous police state/dictatorship being loaded?

It will be necessary to suppress the rebellion, or is it just another Dancehall duncehall reconfiguration session of governance in motion?

Will it be Donald Trump to the rescue of Jamaica, or will it be Netanyahu, Putin, Kim Jong Un, or Xi Jinping, or even the IRGC of Iran? Oh, could it be Andrew Holness or Mark Golding? Both paid Ja$27 to Ja$28.6 million in salaries per annum as of February 2026, retroactively to  2025.

Isn’t it now time to triple all pensioners' salaries tied to their historically substantive posts and land/homes to the landless, homeless and internal migrants.

Remember all former prime ministers today are eligible for and receiving the said PM salaries, which means PJ Patterson and Portia Simpson-Miller are getting the same salaries also.

It should be noted that only Bruce Golding refused the full amount, which is taking 2/3rds, i.e., $19 million.

Those former deceased PMs' living spouses receive 2/3rd, so Hugh Shearer and Edward Seaga's spouses still do.

Thanks to PJ Patterson's creative humanitarian actions.

How come the NaRRA head is being paid almost twice the PM's salary? Which country will he be running while Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth people suffer in Jamaica?

Melissa's hurricane devastation was 1 year ago. Jamaica, we can and must do better.

  1. Jamaica is heading no where and at top speed. Right now I don't see any hope for this country.

  2. Mr. Spence, I'd have you know that the heads of several public entities in Jamaica are taking home more than the Prime Minister. It's been that way for a long time now. Check the salaries for the head of NHT, Port Authority, Jamaica Customs, Petrojam, OUR, BOJ...to name a few. The reason why this level of remuneration is coming to light is because it's NaRRA, otherwise you would not hear a thing. Every conceivable tactic will be employed to discredit NaRRA. The real concern is that the entity might succeed in speeding up the pace of hurricane recovery. That is the real motive.
