Jamaica Nuclear Reactor to be Bombed???

Contributed

Are we aware that Jamaica, like Iran, has been actively exploring and developing nuclear technology for many years?

The country has a 20-kilowatt research nuclear reactor at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

How protected is it? Do we have an Iron Dome or Scandal-type plastic dome to protect us from being bombed by the USA and Trinidad, Cuba, Venezuela, St. Kitts, or Barbados?

Jamaica, like Iran, is also exploring the potential of small Nuclear Reactors (SMRs) for electricity generation and other civilian applications like waste management and radioisotope production.

Are we convinced that any of our political parties or the University is not pursuing nuclear weapons production?

Like Iran Jamaica is a signatory to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Does not, should not, or will not possess nuclear weapons.

Can our neighbors to the north be trusted not to send B52 bombers,

Helicopters or Probox with firecrackers to take out the facility.

Are the abovementioned facts known to the Jamaican people or even those in close proximity to the Nuclear reactor in Mona?

We need to hear from the Jamaican government or the alleged Israeli leader in opposition.

Jamaica Diaspora Northeast Conference

The 2025 Jamaica Diaspora Northeast Conference closed its curtains not just on an event but on the launch of a powerful movement. Held over three days in Philadelphia, the conference brought together hundreds of Jamaican nationals and descendants from across the region, unified by purpose and driven by a shared commitment to Jamaica’s future.

More than a forum for dialogue, this year’s conference focused on action. Participants tackled critical issues from immigration, education, and policing to youth development. They looked at health equity and economic opportunity through bold strategies and innovative solutions.

Key outcomes include:

·        Strategic Partnerships: New collaborations were formed between U.S.-based organizations and Jamaican institutions to support youth mentorship, healthcare outreach, and educational exchange programs.

·        Hope Garden Reinvestment Project: A diaspora-led initiative was launched to revitalize public spaces in Jamaica, fostering civic pride and community wellness.

·        Diaspora Skills Registry: A centralized platform was created to match diaspora professionals with Jamaican agencies seeking technical expertise.

·        Civic Engagement: The conference reignited commitment among diaspora members to serve both locally and in Jamaica, boosting participation in advocacy and community development.

·        Adopt-a-Clinic Initiative: Renewed interest was generated in this impactful healthcare support program.

·        Movement Expansion: New leaders and participants joined, strengthening the sustainability of diaspora engagement.

·        Regional Collaboration: Interest grew in hosting a biennial Caribbean diaspora conference, promoting cross-island unity.

Looking ahead, the Northeast region will host quarterly town halls and prepare a strategic presentation for the 2026 Global Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Jamaica. Plans are also underway to launch a Biennial Traveling Northeast Conference, rotating across U.S. states to expand reach and deepen local engagement.

Students Encouraged to Apply For ICT Scholarship

JIS Press Release, June 23, 2025

Students have until July 11 to apply for the Universal Service Fund (USF) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Scholarship for the 2025/26 academic year.

With the application period officially opened today, June 23, five students from underserved communities across the island will receive financial support to pursue academic studies in ICT locally.

The initiative targets individuals who are former beneficiaries of the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH), graduates of the USF Technology Advancement Programme (TAP) or have been members of a USF ICT Club for at least one year.

To qualify, applicants must be Jamaican nationals under the age of 25 as of August 31, 2025; currently residing in Jamaica and accepted into or enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme in ICT at a registered Jamaican tertiary institution. They must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent academic standing, demonstrate financial need, and show active involvement in their communities.

The scholarship forms part of the Fund’s 20th anniversary year-long celebrations, which highlight its continued efforts to bridge the digital divide and expand access to ICT across Jamaica.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the USF, Charlton McFarlane, said the 2025 ICT Scholarship Programme reflects the agency’s broader mandate to increase access to ICT, build local capacity, and equip the next generation to drive Jamaica’s digital transformation.

“As we commemorate 20 years of bridging the digital divide, we’re proud to continue investing directly in the lives of Jamaica’s young people. It’s one thing to speak about digital access, it’s another to see it in action, transforming lives,” the CEO said.

“Our past recipients are working towards their dreams of becoming web developers, IT specialists, and tech entrepreneurs. That’s what this scholarship is about – removing barriers and making big dreams possible,” the CEO said.

Mr. McFarlane emphasised that the USF remains committed to investing in Jamaica’s digital future by empowering the youth with the tools and training needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Since the scholarship’s inception in 2020, the USF has awarded more than $13 million in scholarships to students across the island and plans to increase this investment for the 2025/26 academic year.

Election Watch Jamaica!!!

The clock is ticking away. When will national elections take place in Jamaica? The bell shall ring, and the trumpet shall sound.

I don't want to lie, but is June too soon to call the date and not be late? Would I be telling a lie if I said the election could be in July, or will it be a September to remember?

The day is drawing nigh, and next week could be special.

These are the results so far of the Bark Di Trute online readers' election poll. You can still participate in the poll. The link for the poll is near the bottom of this post.

The poll closes on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Will Heat Wave Affect Jamaica?

The Bahamian Health and Wellness Ministry sent this out I have been told. I wonder if this information is also valid in Jamaica.
