Alert - Flash Flood Warning

The Meteorological Service Press Release - October 23, 2026

Upgraded the Flash Flood Watch to a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew. Maintained the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Ann, St. Catherine and Clarendon.  Effective until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2026.

A broad Trough across the western Caribbean continues to produce unstable weather across Jamaica. Satellite and radar reports indicate that moderate, and at times heavy, showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of most parishes throughout today but especially across eastern and central parishes. The forecast is for intermittent showers and thunderstorms to continue affecting primarily eastern parishes through to Sunday evening which could result in flash flooding. Additionally, due to the increased soil saturation, landslides are likely especially across eastern parishes.

Sea conditions will continue deteriorating in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms. Fishers and other marine interests, especially inshore and offshore the south coast, should therefore exercise caution.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING means flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH means that flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system.

Avoid the Bog Walk Gorge

File photo

I just received information that there is a huge boulder in the road, which has reduced the traffic to one lane. It is possible that more boulders roll off the hill, and this would create a danger for motorists. This is in the Bog Walk Gorge, Kent Village area.

Bark Di Trute suggests that motorists restrict travel in the area for the next few days. I just received information from the police. It states:

Good evening. Please note that a boulder fell from the hill into the road along the main thoroughfare in the Bog Walk Gorge. The road is partially blocked. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution and, where practicable, find alternative routes.

We need to take care of the animals. If you have chickens in an enclosed area where they could be flooded out, then let them out so they can go to a higher level.

Bark Di Trute invites you to send you pictures and videos of what's happening to 876 816-5261.

Court Application To Be Added to Clarendon Municipal Corporation

PNP Press Release - October 23, 2026

The People's National Party (PNP) confirms that an application was filed in the Supreme Court on October 21, 2026, seeking to have Councillor Scean Barnswell joined as a party to the legal proceedings brought by Joel Williams and Clivalee Mundle, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, respectively.

The proceedings were brought to prevent their removal from office by the majority of councillors following a shift in the composition of the Corporation, which now gives the PNP a clear 12–10 majority. However the Mayor and Deputy Mayor did not join any of the PNP Councillors in the lawsuit.

On October 16, an ex parte interim injunction prevented a duly convened special meeting of the Corporation at which the majority intended to elect a Mayor and Deputy Mayor who command its support.

The PNP maintains that the leadership of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation must reflect the will of the majority of its elected councillors. The application to add Councillor Barnswell as a party represents the first step in the legal process towards restoring democratic governance within the Corporation.

The Party remains committed to pursuing the appropriate legal remedies to ensure that the democratic will of the majority is respected and that the leadership of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation reflects its duly elected majority.

Survival Of Mankind In Jamaica and The World Could Result in a Crisis

By Michael Spence

Michael Spence

The Earth's population is approximately 8.32 billion people. Some countries' population replacement rates for survival are way below the standard 2.1.

Haiti 3.1 in the Caribbean and Africa 4 are way above or equal to the standard replacement rate. Essential to guarantee generational replacement and ultimate survival of a people. Interestingly, America is the highest among 1st world countries. Perhaps fuelled significantly/mainly by Hispanic women and other immigrants.

Russia has many more women than men, like Japan and even Jamaica. I noted in Jamaica also that the net population increase was less than the number of murders, not including police extrajudicial killings, which is of great concern.

In Jamaica, the matter/importance of having children cannot be overemphasised. Like the production of goods, food, and services, births must be emphasised and incentivised, e.g., "Baby Bonuses" of approximately US$1000 each for free health care, education up to 1st degree or 1st profession in demand.

A mass consciousness enlightenment program (MCEP) must be embarked upon, starting among government and that 2% owning 95% of the economy.

Michael Spence

Michael Spence is a graduate of Cornwall College and the University of the West Indies. He is a trained teacher, a sociologist, and a writer for Bark Di Trute.

Unstable Weather Expected Friday, October 22

Press Release from the Meteorological Service - October 22, 2026

Created picture.

A broad trough currently across the northwestern Caribbean is expected to move closer to Jamaica by Thursday night. Consequently, unstable weather conditions are expected across the island beginning Friday morning.

The forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect most parishes, especially eastern and central parishes, through Sunday.

Fishers and other marine interests, both inshore and offshore along the north and south coasts, should exercise caution, as sea conditions are expected to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms, and squalls.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor this system and update accordingly.

Editor's Note

Jamaicans living in flood-prone areas must be prepared to move items to higher levels in their houses to protect them from floodwaters.

The smooth flow of traffic could be negatively impacted, especially in urban areas.
