Mr. Derby I do not think you have ever been locked up, have you? But as a new comer to the jail house you have to pay your rent to check in to her majesty’s hotel. There is a prisoner there before you and even a spot on the floor and pay for your bed (cardboard).The 31year old Mario Deane of Rosemount who died as a result of injuries sustained at the Barnett Street lock up in Montego Bay I bet might not have been beaten by the police in this case or at least given the fatal blow. The reality is that police depending on how they live with the prisoners may take offence to any new comer dissing their police caretakers especially if they are ones to give them a little Bligh here and there. You cannot just naively go to jail and want to go on bunk bed unless you are the baddest man in there with good backative inside there and out in the street so that could have instigated a wicked beating from fellow inmates and can be done without a sound or if you are a feisty prisoner the police could turn a blind eye on your brutalization or just tell the other inmates to “beat the bwoy” and if you add” batty bwoy” you just dead. When you go jail or prison for the first time you cannot hype up yourself unless you have friends to support you or you well bad. These lockups need surveillance cameras monitored by none police maybe away from the station. The lesson is everywhere having rules and a hierarchical system and you cannot be naïve or you will court your death. My condolences to Mario’s family and friends but my bet is as good as yours the police will not be implicated no matter how much investigation. Someone with more recent experience particularly from Barnett Street lock up should be able to give you more on life inside there. If you go jail and have money to pwy you way inside there you good to go cause you can buy police and prisoner friends and try nuh bounce pon no man or dis neither police or inmate a just respect all the way “Prison a nuh bed a rose “says Jah Cure is so true or make Ninja man tell you.07/08/14
