Jamaican Olympian, Dennis Johnson OD, Dies


Outstanding sportsman Dennis Johnson OD, has passed on. His son Peter reported to me this morning. Dennis has been ill for a number of days and he succumbed to his illness last night.

Dennis Johnson  was born on May 6, 1939, and he is a former Jamaican sprinter who equalled the world record, 9.3 seconds, for the 100-yard dash in 1961. Johnson later became a coach and advisor, and the architect of the Jamaican athletics programme.

Dennis has played a pivotal role developing the sports programme at UTech under the leadership of Dr. Alfred Sangster the first President of the University. His work had national Impact.
