Two Women To Watch - Juliet Holness And Lisa Hanna

Most Hon. Juliet Holness, MP
Mrs. Holness was unknown politically when she was known as only the Prime Minister's wife. At that time, she became the topic of many verandah talks. Many wanted to see the PM's wife as this petite woman by the PM's side who does not even know how to boil water. Many wanted to see the PM's wife as someone who steps out each day in the finest outfits and jewelry, who continuously makes fashion statements.

At that time, many criticized Mrs. Holness on how she dressed poorly for a Prime Minister's wife. Many felt she needed to change her wardrobe. During the early days she was busy working in the St. Andrew Hills of East Rural St. Andrew helping Alexander Williams to get that seat. I understand that while she was busy on the campaign trail working on another person's campaign, members of the constituency were observing how well the wife of the Prime Minister was planning, organizing and directing the political organizations in the constituency.

Alexander Williams the candidate stepped aside due to the pressure of his work and  , members of the team did not take long to say that oonu fi mek Juliet run as MP. One wonders whether she was ready for the political plunge but she took the plunge as if she was a veteran Olympic swimmer and she came out with the Gold.

Lisa Hanna, MP

In recent times, working in her constituency, Jamaicans have been looking at her through the corner of their eyes. They are doing the same for another woman at this time. That other woman is Lisa Hanna. Due to party challenges, Lisa is facing an uphill task. Many have written off Lisa, the same way they had written off PJ Patterson who was tagged with many negatives things. S for Sugar, I for Iran and R for the Rollins deal. Well  SIR PJ said, "I shall return," and he did return and he stayed for a long time.

Back to my main subject, Juliet Holness. She is a woman who seems like that country woman who will climb the highest mountain, she will bend down and clean any floor, she is at home with any farmer in the St. Andrew Hills and she will motivate the young men to do the work. You remember that video, "Come on move it" as she got bags of goods swinging from hand to hand as she and others worked to get items to assist persons in her constituency.

I have written this blog about her today because I will say to you, The Most Hon. Juliet Holness, oonu no see nutten yet! She has separated herself from the pack. She seems to be putting Jamaica before her party which her husband leads. I am disappointed though, that many young journalists in commenting on her statement about the Covid-19 vaccination foul up, continue to view things through their political dark glasses. They are looking at her actions from a purely simplistic party political perspective.

Today a friend called me while I was thinking about Mrs. Holness, and told me that he had sent me a message. The following is the message:

Mrs. Holness is a CHAMPION, a true States Person. She's the BEST in this business. She's so Real and Objective. She does not mix politics or party affiliation with her PATRIOTISM, and her duty as a Representative of the Jamaican people on a whole. I wish there were more "politicians" like her. I wish I could buy her a "patty and a cocoa bread, and a soft drink", just as a token of her VALUE,  CONTRIBUTION, OBJECTIVITY, and PATRIOTISM. She is a TRUE EXEMPLARY States Woman. Please send this text to her..

(BTW, I like Lisa Hanna too, she was my favorite,  but Juliet Holness is now my CHAMPION.

Interesting days are ahead. Two women who could be leading both political parties in the future - Lisa Hanna and Juliet Holness - let us continue to watch them.

Note: Person in media should note that Mrs. Holness is an MP who is representing a constituency, and her role in politics is not to be the wife of the Prime Minister. When she travels overseas or attends a function in Jamaica with her husband then she does so in the capacity as the Prime Minister's wife. There is no need to keep reminding when she talks that she is the wife of the Prime Minister.

I welcome your comments on this article. The link to this blog will be sent to Mrs. Holness and Mrs. Hanna-Lake for them to see the comments.

  3. You know I have for some time now come to the conclusion after realizing that the Jamaican economy grew most in the sixties and 80s.The composition of Parliament were doers of things not professional Chatterboxes there were farmers, manufacturers and varying assortments of doers of things.Ms Holness in is a doer of things a builder and therefore a pragmatist and doing a good job.Persons in government who never build a stall a roadside or engaged in any kind of business will find it difficult to wrap their minds around building a country which is a composite of businesses of assorted sizes.I see in Ms Holness as the best choice available for being the Minister of Agriculture and a good candidate for Prime Minister when time come. With the vaccination program to be effective use the Agriculture model Ms Holness there are 448 extension areas in the country do the program by extension area building back the influence of Agriculture and Health at the same time.Revolutions were won by convincing rural people you are the best Castro did it and that's what the Taliban did.A bottom up approach should have been used not the Kingston based quasi colonial top down approach.Go for it Ms Holness and reconfigure the Vaccination program start from Westmoreland and St Thomas and let them meet you in Kingston.Let rural farmers, teachers and all the little people granny and grandpa young and old will work with you to transform this country into a Healthier place all round, switch the focus no fight with anti vaxxers.Good job we naah stop Bark di Trute Maas Vernon.

  4. Julet is either doing a good job or she happens to have an excellent PR She is presently overshadowing the PM .However in some quarters in NY it is on the road that she is the one running the country As for Lisa she needs to concentrate fully on her constituency by reconnecting and rebuilding .Try to see how she can work with and also around her detractors .RECONNECT with the youths she have the power to do so but presently she is not using it

  5. I can't recall having a politician who knows how to put Country over politics and party affiliation. Mrs. Holness has demonstrated that it can be done, and I only wish that other politicians will employ this quality. I am sure that our beautiful Country, Jamaica, will be better off when this is practised. The Million Dollar question, though, is can they do it? Mrs. Holness is not afraid to speak Truth to Power on behalf of the Jamaican people. She demonstrates that she is a Woman For the People, Of the People, qBy the People, and this kind of People Commitment is lacking in our Politics. She understands that she is first a Jamaican and its Country first. And, I am sure she knows when to be politically correct. The Honorable Mrs. Holness, I only wish I could give you a hug, but then again that might not be a good idea, because I would hug you so tight you would be gasping for breath; I am feeling you Mrs. Holness. I am so happy that unto us a True States Woman is given. You are the Pele in Politics. So, please keep on doing what You are doing because if You stop Jamaica will be "ruin". One God, One Aim, One Jamaica. BLESSINGS..
