Convicted Murderer Gets a Slap on the Wrist

This week was another shocking week again in Jamaica, when we heard about the ruling of Hanover court in the case where a man was convicted for two counts of murder was sentenced to 12 years at hard labour.

I have been pushing for the National Identification System and the need to store biometrics information for all citizens. This is the way to go for every citizen of Jamaica. That will allow us to rely more on science rather that depending on someone to tell a story - someone who might no even live to tell the story.

While social interventions are necessary, we cannot wait on that and allow these heartless and callous criminals to continue to wipe us out. If someone knows that there is a 90% chance that if he/she has an illegal gun or if he kills someone, he will be caught, tried convicted and face the death penalty then only mentally deranged persons would take that chance.

Listen to another Bark The Trute video and add your comments below this blog giving your ideas how to deal with crime. This post will be sent to our leaders so your comments can make a difference.

Factors contributing to low murder rates and decreased crime include the wealth of a nation, the effectiveness of its law enforcement, availability of weapons (especially firearms) no wonder Jamaica's PM Andrew Holness recommends death penalty for illegal possession. The swift severity of punishment by death for committing murder is important in Jamaica's case for sure. Look at Japan a wealthy nation with very strict regulations regarding gun possession, murder is punishable by hanging.
Countries with the Lowest Murder Rates (per 100k ) include:
Japan (0.2)
Singapore (0.2)
Hong Kong (0.3)
Luxembourg (0.3)
Indonesia (0.4)
Norway (0.5)
Oman (0.5)
Switzerland (0.5)
United Arab Emirates (0.5)
China (0.6)
Jamaica is a high of 46.5 with a lot of work to do SOEs are tools tried tested and marginally successful.
JCF lacking in manpower and resources continue to be ignored is a major national headache.
Our friends China don't play with criminals of any sort and the world over knows that so take it or leave it.Interestingly the word for a thief (Xiao tou) in Mandarin translates as small head.As part of their culture lazy and thief is frowned upon.In our country the bigger the criminal the more one could be lauded.

Our authorities are joking, sentensing for gun crimes should be set at 30 years minimum for posesion. The man with a gun is not going to use it to plant food.
If we are setious also, who finance the top class lawyers to defend these nobodies. Follow the money stupid.

We have had worse "indefinite detention" for gun/ammo and it didn't make a real difference murders skyrocketed from 300 to 1600 ,1500 and now 1300.The trouble is that most persons were not caught. Our JCF is under manned by about 12000 that's the number now on paper we really need to have 25-30000 and no SOE will correct that.We need to train at least 4000 per year as an emergency strategy for the next 3 years ie 2024.
At the present rate of 1000 per year that's by 2034 at 1500 per year that is by 2029.
Talk of SOE as a solution cannot work well without adequate manpower and resources.
Do Jamaican lives really matter if yes go on a 4000 per year training program ask also for volunteers even to man paperwork and manageable logistics.

All convicted murderers must face death as punishment.
Japan has one of the lowest crime and murder rates in the world and hanging is the penalty for murder. Our leadership in has been living in a fools paradise since Independence or let's say since 1988 when the last two hangings occurred.Dont blame either the Privy Council or Human Rights Commission for our own ineptitude and idiocy.
