A Follower of Bark Di Trute Gives 911 Experience.

The following is a message received from a Bark Di Trute supporter:

Mr Derby, Having read your blog about 911 I must share two experiences with you which happened about 15-20 yrs. ago, so nothing has changed.  My neighbor's husband died at home - I called the Constant Spring Police Station-  Here goes the convo. " Goodnight could an officer come to such address in the Havendale area, my neighbor's husband died - how you mean dead, Me seh you nuh know when smaddi dead, what age person? I said 70+ yrs. Oh a Old man!! I hung up. They (about 4 came with long guns) at about 11:00pm. The call was made after 8:00 pm. Now I put it to you.

Next was New Year's Eve back from Midnight Mass, the Music was extremely loud that the things in the house was shaking. Called asking the officer if something cannot be done about the noise which was coming from the Whitehall vicinity. His response was " Lady go a you bed a holiday. You have to tek bad things mek laugh. Wonder if there's a bright cloud beyond the Silver lining

Where do we go from here,is it forward to a civilized society or continue on a path of the further uncivilization of society. The loud vulgar decadent lyrics in the music industry is one thing but such crass behaviour from a taxpayer sponsored organization having a duty To Serve,Protect and Reassure is our 911 disaster that needs a long-term masses oriented fix more intense than a SOEs.

How many critics of the police are willing to take up their responsibilities, or acceot and respond to the demands made on them by citizens, for even one day? Many of the problems faced by the police are driven by citizen indiscipline, and that by choice. One Jamaican couple at the airport said "a Jamaica dis, we noh obey noh law". In the face of such attitudes, it becomes extremely difficult for the police to operate as effectively as they would like or as the public requires. We too have a preventive and curative role to play.
