Transport Authority is to commence motor
vehicle examinations on January 9, 2023 to facilitate Public Passenger Vehicle
operators ahead of the February 1, 2023 start of the licensing period.
Kingston, Jamaica- January 3, 2023
Effective
Monday, January 9, 2023, the
Transport Authority will commence motor vehicle examinations in preparation for
the renewal of road licences which expire on March 31, 2023. The early
start of examinations is to facilitate the timely submission of road licence
applications come February 1, 2023, the
start of the 2023/24 Road Licencing
Period.
The
early commencement of motor vehicle examination is part of the Authority’s
thrust to provide convenient and efficient service to customers. Under this
facility, licensees are not required to pay the motor vehicle examination fees
upfront, as the fees will be collected upon submission of their applications
for renewal of their road licences.
The
Transport Authority is also encouraging customers to take advantage of the
online application process using their debit or credit cards in order to avoid
congregating at the offices. Customers can also request the delivery service
being offered.
Meanwhile
the Authority is reminding customers that:
- All
its offices are now cashless facilities. Customers may pay for services at
paymaster, bill express, National Commercial Bank (NCB) using debit and
credit cards at its offices
- PPV operators and applicants must
meet the approved Transport Authority standards and requirements in order
to receive a road license. These include colour coding, exterior markings
and vehicle age requirements. For further details, persons may contact the

- Failure to complete the
renewal/reapplication process by March 31, 2023 means that their road licenses would have expired.
