Murder-Suicide on Independence Weekend!!!

Murder-suicide couple
Today marks the 61st anniversary of our nation's independence, and despite our challenges, there is still much to be proud of. While it's good to celebrate, it's equally important to educate ourselves about our history. Unfortunately, the annual crime rate continues to rise, and this morning brought news of another tragic murder-suicide in Kingston. This murder-suicide involved a married couple who apparently were having relationship challenges.

Sources indicate that the woman has been married thrice and the couple has sought counseling at a church headed by a nationally known pastor. My anecdotal experiences tell me that marriages are under siege in Jamaica. I observe also that many young persons are not interested in forming stable relationships which are needed to form a stable family. The nuclear family is the smallest social unit in society and failed families can lead to the failure of society.

While I can give my opinion as to what is happening with family life in Jamaica, there is a need for research in this area. The results of this research would assist us in dealing with a social problem, which could develop into a crisis.

Oftentimes people blame cheating for relationships falling apart but that might not be the full answer. A couple cannot continue to live together if they cannot get along. People with personality disorders and mental challenges make it difficult to work with them. Personality disorders and mental challenges might not be obvious to those of us who are not trained in psychology nor are we psychiatrists. I, therefore, believe that a couple going to a church counselor might not be the solution. One or both people might need to see a psychiatrist.

It seems to me that Jamaica probably has a national mental issue problem at the level at which we had the Covid-19 pandemic. Our behaviour on our roads, the murder rate, and how we relate to one another could be symptoms of that national problem. We need to do the research now and have follow-up action. This is a nation in trouble. Let us not believe that our challenges just lie in the realms of economics and politics. People believe that this could be one of the reasons for persons heading back again to the obeahman and seeking protection from demonic sources. This is a cry for help!

Sad state of affairs. If one or both don't believe in counselling you have a serious problem to resolve.

I empathize with the situation and concur with your interpretation. But there are some other factors to look at and I will zone in on 2 two that I have seen as a problem.

1. Pride: People are going through situations, but find it difficult to have that personal discussion, some of whom are not cultured in how to have a rational conversation, we have more been reactive that we are consultative. Therefour our erational side would have cause this kind of situation to happen.

2. The legal system often favours the females that it does the male. I have observed for years that men are usually the ones who are kicked to the curb, even whe they have been the breader winner from day one with no financial support from their spouse.

Granted the spouse would have played the typical role of taking care of the family, while the man provides.
But his contribution are often never considered in the deliberations of separation, the female would be the one to be favoured the house and all the luxeries that the man would have worked hard to provide and no told that he would have go start over again. This is a difficult pill to swallow for most men even when they are not guilty of some of the things they may have been accused of.
This I think is a major reason for thes murder suicides, because ther are no other options as far as they can see.
I wait your response.
