"Enough is Enough", Says Prime Minister Holness!!!

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Mr. Prime Minister, in reference to the level of crime in Jamaica, you have said, "Enough is enough". Many of us have been echoing those words for a long time now - "Enough is enough." Enough barking - it's time for biting decisions and actions.

Please Click Here and you will see a blog which has links to the various blogs I have written on the subject. You will find the responses of my readers very interesting. Bark Di Trute is now approaching 1 million views. A spectacular achievement since I started to push this blog in 2022.

Enough is enough, time for decisive action!!!

  1. A lot of expressions of sadness for the Salt Spring child murders is trending.
The sad reality is that dead bodies have been piling up since 1962 Independence when there were 63 murders and by 2022 sixty years later it was 1498.
Experience teaches wisdom I pay little attention or take seriously the multiplicity of remorse expressed.
    Another 9 day wonder,is it??

  3. The solution being put forward by our political leaders for the reduction in serious crimes does not show the rigour of thought and the negative consequences of the thought. Mostly knee - jerk emotional reactions to appease the public. Longer sentences will not work as a deterrent to the criminal mind that has no hope, no good value system and nothing living for. The horrible victimization by crime would have already taken place. Crime prevention intervention is what is needed to cut the production of the criminals. Too much ineffective measures are being focussed on instead of crime prevention intervention measures to prevent the horrible crimes from taking place in the first place. Start the intervention from before pregnancy and continue into adulthood among child bearing population, the babies, teenagers and adults so the rate of the production of criminal minds and criminals is reduced. Get the citizens to be crime fighters and use more intelligence gathering mechanisms and technology, community policing instead the use of excessive lethal force, implement rewarding youth engagement and diversion programmes etc. We need to close down the crime factory which is in full production before the horrible crimes are committed. Long sentences won’t deter the criminal mind nurtured and programmed to do harm, destruction, injury to one another.

    1. Crime has morphed into a highly profitable fast growing and lucrative multibillion$ industry.
Look around and see who are the persons making money off the blood, sweat and tears of the Jamaican people.
Look at it the ligitimate and illigitimate sectors competing for supremacy daily.
The Crime industry is at least 10% of GDP,can Jamaica do without it more than Agriculture at 8%.
Crocodile tears, emotional speeches ,9 day wonder until the next horrific incident. Two little boys a symbol of Jamaica's future are dead while a proud murderer
Are we serious ,show it nuh.
All guilty murderers should be executed forthwith. The Jamaican people want if not an alternate HITMAN Justice system will emerge, then all chaotic hell bruk loose.
Have a express tracking Justice channel for murder all the way up to execution.
We cannot continue to reward murderers with a long secure life fed and
protected by the relatives of the same murdered victims via taxes direct or indirect.
Think about it you murder 100 people , give yourself up then plead guilty and get a discount on 100 life sentences running concurrently.
The murderer has won and becomes a champion celebrity duppy maker.
It costs taxpayers approximately US$10,000 per year to keep one prisoner for a year.
There are people making good money off the misery of the Jamaican people.
Executions last occurred in 1988 of a Dinnall and Foster from the Westmoreland police Division for the murder of a one eyed man a local small farmer and community boxing hero I knew quite well (RIP).

    2. The solutions are plain and obvious. Long sentences will deter crime; it's human psychology. If the perpetrator knows he will be caught and swiftly handed a lengthy sentence or even the death penalty then he will think twice about committing that crime. Others observing the laws executed as legislated will also be discouraged to follow the footsteps of the perpetrator. The possibility of getting away with it or plead bargaining their way to a lighter sentence is what gets them high on crime and on being seen as a "badman".
The laws are weak and "useless" and the entire system needs revamping. The society has to cease to glorify crime and criminals as well. There is a culture of crime that has been birthed, nurtured and protected by the society. Why the sudden outcry? The long term effects were not calculated. It is not difficult to tame the wild "Crime Beast": stop feeding him. Stop nurturing him. Stop protecting him. He will die.
Count the ways the society is doing this. Don't even begin to think that killing the beast begins at home, no. It has long outgrown that environment. Emergency efforts has to begin in the parliament, by enacting the appropriate laws and measures, then it will "trickle" down to the social ravines.

  5. Emotions, fear, condemnation, long prison sentences, executions and assumptions will not close down the crime factory created and nurtured by us for decades. Where is the compelling evidence that long prison sentences or the death penalty will deter the already nurtured and programmed killer, robber etc who has no positive value system, is without hope and not living for any positive objective and who is afraid death? Long prison sentences serve to deter persons with a positive value system and hope. The crime factory in full production will only cut production if there is a crime strategy where there is no good opportunity for crime, no motivation for crime and no reward for crime with a criminal justice system that is well resourced and offering swift and sure justice. That is the deterrence, not long prison sentences or the death penalty.
