REMEMBER THOSE DAYS? There would be no phones on
that table. Life was simple and there was so much respect for the elderly!

Reflecting on 2023, a year filled with both highs and lows, it's disheartening to witness the challenges that persist. As we navigate the complexities of the past year, one can't help but ponder what 2024 holds in store.
Recently, I stumbled upon a photo in my social circle, evoking fond memories and prompting me to question the apparent erosion of family values and connections. Will the warmth of those moments return, or are they lost to the currents of change?
The pervasive focus on material pursuits seems to have altered the fabric of our relationships. Regrettably, it appears that technology has played a role in this transformation, leaving little time for genuine human connection. The reverence once accorded to children, women, and the elderly seems to be fading, replaced by a valuation based on possessions rather than inherent worth.
In a world where worth is often measured by possessions, it's disheartening to witness the decline of genuine connections. People are increasingly valued for their tangible assets, with houses, cars, and money overshadowing the intrinsic value of family and friendship. Those without such "benefits" find themselves marginalized and discarded.
Despite the prevailing trends, I find solace in the fact that a significant portion of my life is behind me. The prospect of growing older in a world prioritizing materialism over genuine connections is not one I eagerly anticipate. Nevertheless, as we usher in the new year, I extend warm wishes to all. May the coming year bring a renewed emphasis on the bonds that truly matter amidst the clamour for material success. Happy New Year, dear friends.

I cry for this generation. I really do. To see how things and times have changed for the worse with our young people is really sad. How can we ever fix this. Maybe Lois Grant could give some suggestions. I like her style of writing too. We dont see many people expressing their truths in such a decent and simple way for all to understand. Thanks Mr Derby for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMr Derby are those animals? Which cave do they live in? They are not human beings. Did you get any followup on this brutal wicked act?j.
ReplyDeletePart of our problem is our nasty and violent music. It is not the only cause but it's an imoortant factor. If ever we doubt the ability of music to infiltrate our psyche, just listen to the news daily.
ReplyDeleteI do remember those days, specially in summer we played from sunrise to sunset, even though we had our little differences we have remained friends.
