When Love Spreads It Enriches Others - The Violet Edwards Scholarship Available for 2024!

Mrs Violet Edwards

Do you remember Joan Williams, a former radio talk show host?  She no longer lives in Jamaica but I am in touch with her. Joan brought the Violet Edwards story to my attention.

Violet Edwards obtained her degree at 96 years old. This phenomenon woman achieved this while battling cancer.

Joan Williams

This was a good story for Bark Di Trute. The story was carried on my blog. The story developed feet in Jamaica and eventually developed wings internationally.

This inspirational story has not received any attention from the Jamaican authorities.

Everett Smith
I contacted Mrs Edward's family and her son-in-law Everett Smith who I can now call my friends. We discussed the achievement of this unusual Jamaican. Everett felt that other persons wanted to pursue tertiary studies but were unable to do so. Violet Edwards had put her education on hold so that her daughter could pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. Her daughter Christine is a leading primatologist in Florida USA.

From those discussions came the Violet Edwards Scholarships. Four Jamaicans are the first to benefit. The value of the scholarship for the first recipients was approximately JAD4 million.

Recently, Everett decided to have a birthday party for his wife. He told his guests to come with their chequebooks to the party. That decision resulted in contributions to the Violet Edwards Scholarship, valued over JAD1 million. The target for the Violet Edwards Scholarship for 2024 is JAD2 million.

During this time, Everett was helping with funding for the scholarship, he was facing personal challenges. I kept on praying that he would be around to help more Jamaicans. He is still around - I know that he will be around to assist more Jamaicans.

I have not met Mrs Violet Edwards, her son-in-law nor his wife! There is no need to be surprised because we are bonded by love. We will continue to share the love with each other. I hope one day Jamaica will recognize this elderly lady who has made history for her country and the world. May we also recognize the elderly in society and treat them well.

One Love, One Heart, Let's get together and feel all right.

What a beautiful story. She was determined to realise her own dream despite her health challenge. We need to hear more of these positive messages from the media. Thanks Vernon Derby for bringing this story to our attention. Positive Vibrations and I am quoting Bob Marley since it's the season for his celebrations too.
