With the development of AI (Artificial Intelligence) this could impact negatively on the BPO (Business Outsourcing Process). sector
I remember when former Prime Minister Edward Seaga had pushed for the development of the garment sector and many unskilled persons benefitted. This was at a time when many unskilled persons were without jobs. That industry died after a while. If my memory serves me right this was due to local policy and also that Mexico had a preferential trade agreement with the US which impacted that sector.
What will replace the BPO sector if AI reduces the need for that sector? I understand that the BPO sector has had one of the highest growth rates in the last decade. The employment now stands at approximately 60,000 persons.
I would love to hear from those persons in the sector. Is the government considering this possibility and what other opportunities are we looking at in terms of picking up this slack if this sector falls off?

ReplyDeleteVernon a very importaant question.. But who is thinking ahead? now that's another question. This needs to be posted all over. I don't know much about AI but I know it is going to change the world. It has started already. Governments need to keep ahead.
ReplyDeleteYes until AI BPO technology gets the hang of it.
