Man Falls into Ditch and Eventually Dies. All Like Shaggy Say, 'It Wasn't Me!"

The Ditch where a man fell in and eventually died.

I am amazed at the responses in the Jamaica Gleaner dated Sunday, April 14, 2024, concerning a man who lost his life recently in Jackson Town in Trelawny. The report states, "The Trelawny Municipal Corporation is distancing itself from the circumstances leading to the tragic death of 72-year-old Coral Brissett, who was hospitalised for two weeks after falling into a ditch at his gate".

Whoever authorized the building of that ditch at the side of the road obviously needs his head to be examined. The ditch is a danger to all living things. This is a roadway which pedestrians use. Where do the pedestrians walk? If there is an oncoming vehicle and one is in danger, one has the choice of being killed by the motor vehicle or by the ditch. Was this construction authorized by the Parish Council or the NWA? The ditch was not created by nature. All we hear is 'It wasn't me!'.

When there is rain that ditch must be full of running water. What happens if an elderly person or a child falls in?

The state cannot absolve itself from dangerous places created in public such as our roads and sidewalks.

The leadership of the Trelawny Parish Municipality need to think again and understand their role and responsibilities to the people of the parish. The ditch area is dangerous to all. You need to plan how to deal with it. That is why you are elected as leaders. Rather than saying, "It wasn't me". Say what we will do to correct the situation (Assuming you have funds.)

  1. What surprises me is that you are amazed that no one is accepting responsibility. Don't you get it? No one is accountable in this country. They may kick up a stink today but by tomorrow it is all forgotten. The only time anything is done is when it affects dem fren. Justice, truth be ours forever. Right

  3. I'm so disturbed by this, I'm almost speechless. I hope we stay on this one. To start with, this is Careless to the highest degree!!!!! Then no one steps up? Heartless!!!! Then the gentleman dies - Wickedness!!!!!!
Is this "Corporate Homicide?" ( I don't even know if there's such a term). "If it were a " known" person I bet things would be different. Even if the various bodies won't accept responsibility, who is the overall "Watch" for the Government? That's why we as citizens MUST speak up. God bless Vernon and this space of participants who love and believe in a better Jamaica.
