No Water In Some Areas and Fire At Riverton City Dump

Jamaica is facing a drought in several areas across the country. People are having challenges getting water in Westmoreland for example. The cost of water bought from the truck operators is high. There is a concern that these trucks are unsuitable for transporting water for consumption.

The government is making moves to deal with the matter by assisting citizens to get black tanks.

NWC is also having distribution challenges. We are approaching the summer and it means therefore that the country has to have a master plan that should have a short and long-term aspect to it to deal with Jamaica's water woes. Our water challenge is a perennial one.

The following is a Press Release from the National Water Commission on April 9, 2025:

CHLORINATION EQUIPMENT ISSUE IMPACTING WHITE MARL FACILITIES... CUSTOMERS IN SECTIONS OF ST. ANDREW AFFECTED

Water supply is currently disrupted for NWC customers in sections of  St. Andrew, due to chlorination equipment issues impacting the White Marl #s 1, 2 & 3 Water Facilities. The company is working to have the issues resolved in the shortest possible time.

Areas affected: Duhaney Park, Seaward Drive, Patrick City, Washington Drive, sections of Molynes and Hughenden.

The NWC regrets any inconvenience this disruption may cause and craves the patience and understanding of its valued customers.

Fire at Riverton City Dump

I understand that there is a fire at Riverton City Dump. The following video was sent to me:

This fire will more than likely impact our health negatively. We hope they can extinguish the fire as soon as possible. The solution is to close the dump and open a new garbage disposal area. The government is working on that.

  2. This is a common crisis in Jamaica and this is very dangerous to the communities and business in close proximity. When is our government going to get this deadly problem under control? Every time we give suggestions about water harvesting and then you heard that plans are in place. Then nothing happen. This has been going on for years and until now! The problem still ongoing. When are they going to get this problem under manners? Why is there no cameras install in and the around of the dump? So they can know, if there is any foul play at work. I rest my case!
