Shake-Up in The Jamaica Labour Party

The Following is a Press Release from the Jamaica Labour Party April 21, 2024:

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) had a successful and well attended meeting of its Central Executive on Sunday, April 21, 2024.


Prime Minister and Party Leader, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness charged party members to remain steadfast and focused on the mission of advancing the interest of the Jamaican people.

The Prime Minister and Party Leader reminded the Central Executive of a series of plans and policies which the Government has devised to further build on its track record of creating conditions favourable to easing the burdens on the Jamaican people and advancing the prosperity agenda.

General Secretary Dr. Horace Chang also addressed the Central Executive and expressed confidence in moves being made by the Party to further strengthen its organizational structure.

Dr. Chang announced that Homer Davis and Audley Gordon have resigned from the post of Deputy General Secretary. The Central Executive voted in favour of Senators Charles Sinclair and Delroy Williams being elected as the new Deputy General Secretaries.

The Jamaica Labour Party General Secretary also reported to the Party's second highest decision making body outside of its annual conference, that Senator Aubyn Hill has resigned as Party Treasurer. The Central Executive voted in favour of Daryl Vaz being appointed as the Party's new Treasurer.

The Central Executive also voted in favour of Senator Hill being appointed among the cadre of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Deputy General Secretaries. Senator Hill will be in charge of central administration and quality control in offering support to the Party's secretariat.

Dr. Chang noted that the new additions to the Party's secretariat are members of the Senate who do not currently have a constituency which requires their attention thereby enabling them to dedicate the necessary effort to the complete the respective tasks assigned.

Dr. Chang also announced to the Central Executive that Robert Morgan has resigned as Chairman of the Party's Public Relations Committee. Party Leader Holness advised the body that a Public Relations Council is to be established to lead the party's communication efforts. Membership of the Council is to be revealed at a later date. 

The Party Leader also thanked Messers Morgan, Hill, Davis and Gordon for their sterling service in the respective offices which they have demitted.

The Central Executive which was chaired by Party Chairman Robert Montague also received positive reports from Deputy Leaders Desmond McKenzie, James Robertson, JC Hutchinson and Michael Stern who outlined a programme of work which will support the Party's efforts to maintain and enhance its standing as a potent political force which is contributing significantly to the development of Jamaica.

I thought that after the terrible outcome of the local government elections Desmond McKenzie would have been shuffled but I guess if the party wins the General election next year that would a more suitable time to make ministerial changes.

Morgan was terrible at communicating with the masses. The bulk of voters are of a demography that understands things a certain way and therefore must get information tailored to how they perceive things otherwise you will lose them

the MP them need to pay more attention to there people not only when elections coming up you see them all over the place not good enough

For some reason, our JLP leaders just don't get it. They are disconnected from the people. SMH😤
