SpotOn With Vernon Derby - Big Controversial Topic Tomorrow!

Juliet Holness is a Tough woman.

Robert Stephens
It's the end of the week and SpotOn will end the week with a bang. Join me on Friday, April 5, 2024, on KLAS FM, from 1000 to 1100 EST. We are on the FM band at 89.1, 89.3, 89.5, 89.7 and 89.3 FM. Robert Stephens Co-Chair for the Alliance Network will join me to talk about the recent rulings of the House Speaker dealing with the tabling of certain documents and other actions that she has taken.

The Speaker of the House, The Most Honourable Juliet Holness has been very strident about several matters. Is she seeking to modernize the system of governance or is she trying to hide some wrongdoings of the government? Is the Most Honourable Juliet Holness the Prime Minister's wife now the Prime Target? Is this a test of her political fortitude? Is she just another politician trying to fool the people? She is definitely a tough woman. The question is, 'Will she last?'

This is politics not only in Jamaica but in the world. Elections are around the corner. The people need to know how to sift through the politricks and the politics. Select what will make Jamaica better and ignore the noise. Join me and Robert Stephens tomorrow for an informative conversation.

  2. The rules of the parliament does not prevent the wife of a Prime Minister from being the Speaker. However, the principles of transparency, impartiality. and accountability real or perceived should have been considered for her selection as well as her tenure.

My view on the matter is that it should never have occurred. The Prime Minister as leader of the party should ensure that as long as his wife is the Speaker he should ensure that all matters are addressed expeditiously so that her rulings may be seen and considered to be impartial.

Impartiality, however does not mean the role of wife and speaker will always be seen as indivisible.

There are two great tragedies here.

    1. The PM campaigned on integrity and accountability and as such I expected good consideration to various actions and decisions. That remains as a challenge for the PM and his administration.

    2. This matter may have hamstrung a future candidate (the Speaker), that could have been better as PM than the incumbent.

  3. Very good program this morning. Was listening Mr Stephens - truth be told I think he did not have his thoughts together. You had to be highlighting areas that needed public understanding. Hope whenever he joins you again he'll have much to educate JOHN PUBLIC

  4. When there is so much concealment. Then the people of this country are going to ask questions. These types of issues are too important and why is the government so silent in these matter's of great concern for our nation. This needs to get over with now and move on with country business. Election is just around the corner. Wake up and shake up house of Parliament.
