On Saturday, May 25, 2024, I was walking in the shopping plaza in Kingston. I prefer walking to various stores rather than just walking for exercise purposes alone. Yes, I know some of you will say that is not good Vernon.
I went to a store at Tropical Plaza only to discover that it was padlocked and inside looked as if a storm had passed through. They were renovating the place. This is a place I have been to very often because I only go to places where I get a warm welcome and excellent customer service. I was devastated to realize that those who operated the store had either gone out of business or had moved. I started to walk and asked every pus and dawg where I could find the owners of the now-closed store.
I did not even have to look for a sign because at another plaza across the road., there was this short man of Indian descent, beckoning all those who passed by to come inside and see what he had to offer. I was ecstatic...Eureka. I expressed my displeasure at him moving his business without advising a loyal customer.
I went inside and although I knew what I wanted to purchase, I could have ended up buying far more in the store. They certainly know how to charm you and make you feel important. After I had finished purchasing the items, I was told thanks followed by a clasping hands and a slight bow. The same way I was treated on entering the store.
Jamaicans can learn from these foreigners who come from far away to do business. They know what is good customer service. They greet you pleasantly, smile at you, serve with style and then the deal is closed by thanking you for doing business with them.
The store is Infinity Appliance, Shop 18, Central Plaza, Constant Spring Road, in Kingston. It's next door to Spencer's Tailoring. This is my first SpotOn Business Place where good customer service is key and where the consumer is King.
