Information from my On The Ground Reporter in Grenada is that Governor General Dame Cécile La Grenade has declared a State of Emergency in Grenada. Grenada and other countries in the eastern Caribbean are preparing for Hurricane Beryl. Jamaicans have already started to prepare.
So far, the Emergency Alert System set up in Jamaica to allow state agencies to communicate with the media is working very well. This will enable us as media workers to get accurate information to the public. There will be no need for citizens to share and follow fake news. Thanks for the support from ODPEM, the JCF, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Meteorological Service.
Persons are advised to listen to their radios and televisions and they can also subscribe to the Bark Di Trute Emergency Information System.
I am very concerned that several trees need pruning. If these trees fall on JPSCo power lines the JPSCo power supply can be disrupted. If a tree is near the power line, do not prune it. Contact the JPSCo first.
