JPS Workers Attacked for Removing Illegal Connections!

Press Release From The JPS - 2024/06/06

(Kingston, June 6, 2024)   Last Friday (May 31), a team of JPS workers and contractors, who were removing illegal connections in the Burke Road area of Old Harbour, St. Catherine, were attacked by residents of the community who sought to have the illegal connections remain in place.  Members of the police force, who had accompanied the JPS teams, apprehended one of the aggressors, to which persons responded by stoning the team.  As the ensuing attack escalated, the police were forced to fire shots into the air, to facilitate the safe retreat of the team and to restore order to the increasingly dangerous situation.

Two JPS team members received injuries to their face and chest respectively, while the windshield of a van operated by the contracting firm was damaged by the missiles.

A report has been made to the Old Harbour Police Station.

JPS is reminding members of the public that the regularization is a simple process.  Persons who need to become regularized may call 888CALLJPS, or direct message the company on the various social media platforms @myjpsonline for further information.  JPS also wishes to thank the Jamaica Constabulary Force, for its ongoing support of the company's efforts to encourage regularization and respect for the law.

This attack on the JPS crew and Police is a disgrace and is another manifestation of how eroded discipline and decency are in our beloved Jamaica today.
Pity no one was arrested.
I'm sorry they were hurt and am grateful there were no serious injuries nor loss of life.

We are thankful that the JPS personnel & the police are fine however, this is a job that must be done. How can I be stealing electricity and then attack the service provider for removing my illegal connection? Have we become morally bankrupt?
JPS it may be more cost effective and less dangerous for you to issue A Free solar panel to those persons who refuse to be connected to the grid and let the get free energy from the sun!! Think about it! (Note I said a panel free, they would need to finance the system, it's time we all learnt that nothing is free....someone somewhere is paying a high price).

JPS even thou, you have let this thing gotten out of ✋ for far too long. It is now like a slang even thou it is wrong. Am going to make a simple suggestion. If the throw up is not in any immediate danger area to cause any problems. Just do your normal due diligence and do not cause any unnecessary problems for your self and crew. Remember, that they are going to be in the dark all night or a week of darkness. Honestly; our people will becomes dark and will respond in a uncivilized manner. Please try and use the very simple approach to get your people to regularize. Bare in mind, whenever you overcharged your customers. You are setting them up to do the very same thing you are trying to correctšŸ¤”.

Some communities have their informal local JPS person who is contracted to reconnect when the ligitimate JPS pass through to disconnect.
Will the government now come up with a People's UTILITY INSURANCE for those working to pay the light and water bills for the unemployed those who lost their jobs, never worked or not willing to engage in legitimate employment some who are even rich.
Many are also functionaries in the legitimate but mainly the illigitimate Crime Industry.

I'm a bit confused because Burke Road is the main road in the heart of Spanish Town. However the report says Burke Road in Old Harbour. These aggressors are a big disgrace. It's a pity more of them wasn't detained by the police. Happy that the JPS team members were not severely injured.

I am always amazed at how quickly Jamaicans rise to condemn politicians for acts of corruption that may or may not be proven to be true BUT we tolerate and defend blatant corruption that's in plain sight. We need to realise that corruption by the common man is just as destructive as corruption by politicians.
