Jamaican Co-operative Credit Union League Volunteers Assisting Hurricane Beryl Victims

Jamaicans are loving and caring people, Notwithstanding the few negatives that overshadow the great work that many are doing.

Terrorist Hurricane Beryl brought devastation and destruction, especially to the southern end of the island.

Jamaicans were not daunted by the challenge, and those who could help were eager to assist their brothers and sisters. Many of our brothers and sisters still have no electricity, no water and many do not have a roof over their heads.

Last weekend members of the credit union family saw the need to volunteer to assist those in need.  They journeyed to Rocky Point and South St. Elizabeth to help the victims of Hurricane Beryl. 600 hundred care packages were delivered to persons living in those areas.

Presentations were made on Saturday in Rocky Point, Sunday at Top Hill, Flagaman, Great Bay and Parrotee in St. Elizabeth.

Let's continue to support the credit union movement. A credit union is the place to go when you want to invest wisely and get loans at reasonable interest rates. The credit unions are the people's financial institutions

One thing that I would love to see these people do is that when they go to st Elizabeth don't just stay on the main road road go into the lanes and turn off ad their are lots of people living in those communities as only the people on the main roads seems to benefit from these gestures I've seen it that's why am saying it known people there up till now no one as visited them because they are not on the main road if we are going to help let's help as much as possible no matter where you live.

Rural development and focus of government is lacking.
Apart from having a hurricane one sees the cracks from rural neglect and lack meaningful development.
What does community mean for example it is not just a group of houses.
No housing development should be approved without adequate water supply, shopping and banking facilities, school,
transportation, worship areas, medical facilities, internet and other communication facilities, roads with adequate drainage etc.
