JPSCo Announcement About Estimated Bills in Jamaica Due To Hurrican Beryl

The following message was sent to JPSCo Customers:

Dear Customer,

Hurricane Beryl has disrupted our operations in several ways. One of the areas impacted by the recent hurricane is our ability to do actual meter readings whether manually or remotely.

As a result, your bill for the period June to July may be estimated - so don't be puzzled if it doesn't seem to reflect your most recent usage. Estimates are calculated using the average of your last three actual readings - and we recognize that this estimate may not reflect your true electricity usage since the passage of the hurricane. But, not to worry, your actual usage will be reflected on your next meter reading. Any over-estimation or under-estimation will therefore be taken into account for your next bill.

We agree that estimated bills are not ideal - for you or for us. We are therefore continuing our ongoing efforts to reduce estimated bills to our customers in general.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us via the myJPS Mobile App, our Customer Care Centre at 888-225-5577 (Flow) / 888-935-2255 (Digicel), or Webchat at www.jpsco.com.

Thanks for the privilege of serving you.

Yours sincerely,

Minister Daryl Vaz sent out this response this afternoon:

Editors Note:
Those customers without electricity for a week or more, should not be given an estimated bill. An electricity bill based on the average of the last three months of actual reading would be higher than the current month when the customer would be without service for a week or more.

If a household only had electricity for two weeks, they should only pay 50% of the calculated average used for the past three months for which actual reading was done.

JPSCo should not disrupt electricity service, in areas that have been without electricity for a week or more.
