Corruption is Part of Wi DNA

These days, everyone is talking about corruption. It’s the hot topic, as usual, but mostly just talk. Now, it’s front and centre on the political stage. It seems that corruption is part of our DNA.

After the elections, though, it might all go back to business as usual. I don’t believe the public truly cares about corruption—most of us are only concerned because we’re struggling. Corruption is everywhere: in finance, business, the public sector—you name it. From electricity theft and illegal water connections to praedial larceny, people are working together to bend the rules for their own gain.

You are right, Jamaicans don't care about corruption. In fact, we think it's quite acceptable for us to be corrupt but become very self-righteous and condemning of the corruption of politicians. Not that I am saying that it is OK for politicians to be
corrupt. I am just always amazed at the hypocrisy of it all. Every year - almost, an arcade is destroyed by fire because of electricity stealing and then the vendors will demand that taxpayers' money rebuild it, and there is no consequence for their corrupt action that's shamelessly done in plain sight.

WE WANT CRIME& CORRUPTION??

Corruption + crime has morphed into a lucrative and fast growing Crime Industry.

That industry has two main sectors the ligitimate sector and the illigitimate sectors.

The Government and private sector manages, grows and expands the legitimately sanctioned sector.

At a glance, 13,000 police,40 000 security guards, Ministries of National Security and Justice, 6000JDF,2000 + Lawyers registered to practice by the General Legal Council,11 prisons, near 3800 prisoners with a prison capacity of appr 4300.

How about the buildings and their maintainance, the gins, cars, ammunition, morgues, hospital care for the ill

It costs taxpayers at least US$10,000 per year to keep, care, protect and feed a single per prisoner.

Not so much is spent on a police Constable or a teacher in a Primary school.

Corruption and crime pays its part of a
$US2.9billion industry appr 10% of GDP.

Things like scamming, drug and human trafficking
That is more than Agriculture at 8%.
It is more than either manufacturing or mining.

When you look at the above you could actually say "WE WANT CRIME"??
By the way any behaviour that attracts a fine or imprisonment is a crime.
Examine that definition and you may discover that we are all criminals hence we live in a CRIMINALS PARADISE AND CRIME/CORRUPTION IS GOOD???

CORRUPTION has to be practiced by people with POWER. It's not fair to conflate people stealing water and electricity, which is WRONG, with POLITICIANS, BANKERS, et al, who use their POWER to ROB. So to say it's in our DNA, is not a fair statement; not all of us has the POWER to practice CORRUPTION. And there are many of us with INTEGRITY, CHARACTER, and DECENCY who don't play CORRUPTION even though we have POWER; and those who don't have any POWER at all to even think about practicing CORRUPTION..

Healing can only begin if the leaders (especially political leaders) show they will not tolerate corruption. Ask Singapore!!!

You are so right corruption is a huge part of us. We look at the politicians but I see it everywhere in my daily life.
We need to look into ourselves. We teach our kids the same thing and it deepens.

We need leaders with backbone to lead our country πŸ€” in righteousness and stop beating around the bush. Them need to do what God has ordained them to do. Whenever our leaders are serious about corruption. The people will know. We were Not born with it. It is a choice and a learned lifestyle. That is why some of us are so spoiled. So if we are serious about living right. We can do it. We need to change our mindset πŸ™.
