Mango Hall, Westmoreland: Tuesday, October 22, 2024: Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Western, Morland Wilson, has welcomed Prime Minister Andrew Holness plans for a new international airport in Negril…., as part of the government’s continued investment in Jamaica’s transport infrastructure

MP Wilson, noted that the prospect of a new airport will enhance connectivity, promote economic development, and improve travel experiences for both residents and visitors.

MP Wilson addressed the Opposition's ‘calls for rethink on Negril airport, pushes for road upgrades’ as he pointed out the Opposition's failure to effectively manage road repairs in Westmoreland during their 30 years in power. He went further to emphasize the government's commitment to not only construct airport for Negril but also upgrading major roadways from Montego Bay to Negril as part of the $40 billion Shared Prosperity Through Accelerated Improvement (SPARK) program, and $24.8 billion Western Water Resilience Programme, which addresses the ongoing drought conditions in western end of the island.

"Our vision for Negril encompasses improved infrastructure, including a upgraded water system, a cruise ship pier, and a new town centre, all designed to transform Negril into a vibrant municipality that fosters economic growth and enhances the quality of life for our residents," MP Wilson stated. "The Negril International airport, the Western Water Resilience Programme and the road upgrades are critical elements of our comprehensive development strategy."

MP Wilson called on the Opposition to support the government's efforts to invest in the future of Negril and Westmoreland, rather than criticizing initiatives aimed at improving the region.

Can you imagine the logistics nightmare for air traffic controllers with the additional air traffic so close to the Donald Sangster in MoBay? Besides, where will the money come from to build this airport? The government is not even paying civil servants.
