Di Potholes and Sink Holes Tan Bad!

Dyke Road in St. Catherine

I continue to get complaints about the maintenance of our road network daily. Let me make it clear, I have no intention of blaming one set of politicians. I will say, however, that things started to deteriorate when we abandoned prudent fiscal policies and also monetary policies. The type of policies which many of us do not understand but when when we feel the effects of such bad policies it is deadly. We have seen our dollar depreciate daily, we have seen the deterioration of the services provided by the state, and we have seen opportunities for making this country great evaporation into thin air.

I received the following message from a motorist:

Good morning, Vernon

Advising that there are 3  deep potholes on the Dyke Road in the vicinity of the train line crossing (east side). Traffic travels at 80 km/h and of course faster.

I have seen and heard of vehicles on the side of the road with double blowouts.

A dangerous situation.

I just received this message about the same potholes. Click on the icon below:

Mr E G Hunter please, we cannot continue to go on like this. We are tired of the excuses from Mr Stephen Shaw, and many no longer believe what he says. Min. Vaz, Mr Prime Minister, these are the things the people are upset about. It cost motorists plenty money and the commuter ends up paying more for transportation.

Somebody must care! Motorists have major challenges with these potholes. We should go back to the days when we had the PWD (Public Works Department) and persons were responsible for a certain length of the road. The centralized system of maintaining our roads using the NWA is not working. It is more cost-effective to maintain our roads rather than waiting until we have sinkholes to fix them for millions of dollars.

The long-term plan is to ensure that we have proper drainage and streets do not become rivers whenever it rains, and repair potholes properly when they start developing. If nothing is done then people will continue to believe that the maintenance of our roads is part of the 'Eat a Food Mentality' helping to ensure that our country remains in an impoverished state.

Please send your pictures of these potholes from across the country. State the constituency they are in, and the name of the area, by WhatsApp at 876 816-5261.

Note:

This blog will be sent to Mr E G Hunter at NWA and our political leaders.
