The Following is a Press Release From The PNP West Rural St. Andrew - 20241103:
People’s National Party (PNP) MP Candidate for West Rural St Andrew, Joan Gordon-Webley, has expressed deep concern for residents affected by the severe road collapse in the Mount Prospect area of Brandon Hill. Heavy rains over recent days have left parts of the community marooned since Saturday, underscoring critical infrastructure vulnerabilities that urgently need to be addressed.
In addition to calling for swift action from authorities, Joan Gordon-Webley has visited the affected area to assist with immediate relief efforts. Gordon-Webley and Councillor for the Brandon Hill Division, Chrishina Richards, have initiated the restoration of affected water supply as the first step in their relief efforts. They have provided essential piping supplies to support the work being done by community volunteers.
“My heart goes out to the residents of Mount Prospect affected by this massive breakaway,” said Gordon-Webley. “The poor road conditions and blocked culverts have directly contributed to this disaster. With the potential further breakaways, we are calling on the authorities to urgently ramp up the emergency response
Gordon-Webley added that both she and the councillor are calling on the government to take a proactive approach to mitigating against incidents like these. This includes investing in a program for improved drainage systems, installing retaining walls, implementing a regular drain and culvert cleaning program, and conducting routine infrastructure assessments.
