It was the Cuban Missile Crisis, Soviet presence in the Caribbean, October 1962 the year of Jamaica's Independence. American spy planes then spotted Soviet nuclear ballistic missile facilities being constructed in Cuba. An American spy plane was subsequently shot down over President Castro's Cuba in that same month.
Cuba was put under a naval blockade, and a quarantine line was drawn so that the Soviets could not cross it.
There was an agreement subsequently that same year, 1962, with the then Soviet president Nikita Kruschev and American President Lyndon B Johnson to dismantle the Russian missile facilities, averted war.
Will it be in 2025 that the China Belt and Road crisis and/or the Cuban medical assistance crisis, in which Jamaica is told to cut ties and reduce China/Cuba's influence in the Caribbean region?
The deal could end up being out with China's growing influence in the Caribbean region Jamaica being seen as the centre or launching pad via the China Belt and Road economic initiative.
America's opposition to the Cuban health assistance initiative could be the perfect smokescreen for other motives.
If I were to bet on the Rubio + Holness Jamaica negotiations, it would be China Go Home and the Cuban medical assistance programme capped/monitored by USA and Jamaica's cooperative efforts.
Will the China Highway Construction/road repair and building construction programs be halted, dismantled, or replaced by American companies?
Be reminded that the American embargo and sanctioned Venezuelan-Jamaican oil agreement is already gone.
Will it now be China Go home, Cuba pack your bags or Jamaica being put in the same sanction or embargo dump truck or garbage bag to be disposed of by America?
Or, be secured in an American attaché case and placed on a dresser in the Donald Trump's Whitehouse or locked away in a store room cabinet.
Either way, Jamaica may find itself between a rock and a hard place.
Do we as a people have the guts and wherewithal with enlightened, conscious leadership to stand up and fight back?
In Jamaica's best interests given our circumstances in today's world, what do we choose?

ReplyDeleteIs the Hilness government ready to sell us out ?
Now we are Sold and it started long ago even under Manleys nose.
DeleteThe Jamaican people, once again have been left in the dark, oh boi. The fact is there are more questions than answers from the Condrew Lieness administration regarding Liddle Marco's visit.
ReplyDeleteReleases and the video of the press conference with PM Holness and Marco Rubio have been published on the blog. Check it out.
DeleteCuba has done so much for the Caribbean Island 🏝️ and Jamaica. If we should follow history, we would have to stand up with those who really stand with us. Inspite of the backlash, American might want to place on us! It is not wise to sell out, because we do need other countries on board. Who are willing to have mutual interest for both countries and not just for their own greed 🤔.
