My father, who attended Lowe River All-Age School and Holmwood Technical High School and died while attending the Farm School, loved to take care of people, especially old people. I was three years old when he died. My mother told me that my father's best friend, Viv Russell, used his car as an ambulance to take my father to the hospital, and he used his car as a hearse to take the body from the hospital back to Lowe River in Trelawny. My mother was a shopkeeper who, I am told, gave things to children when they didn't have any money to purchase what they wanted. I seem to have inherited the giving trait from them.
I have learnt that one has to be very careful not to become sick. One look at you, and you have to find between 10,000 and JAD 14,000 to pay the doctor. After that, you have to pay for medication and pay to be treated. If you are admitted to the hospital, then that is like taking out a mortgage. The cost of medical care could take you earlier to your grave and not the illness itself. Let's give thanks for the benefits under the NHF programme.
You must be wondering where I am going with this post. I had posted on my blog that I was going to do a minor operation today. That is now scheduled for next week Tuesday.
Before the doctor started the consultation, he proceeded to tell me how I cared for others and was outspoken. To end that story, the same little funds I had in my pocket when I went into his office, I left with the same amount of funds. Lesson learned this afternoon: "Do good, and good will follow you." Money is not everything.
Thanks, Doc.
My people, a beg oonu. Medical professionals are under nuff pressure. Take care of our medical professionals. We need to produce more caring doctors like the one who took care of me today. In the meantime, we give thanks that we can call on Cuban, American, Canadian, and other medical professionals to help us.
Remember now, don't get sick unless you have a fat bank account or you have a limitless credit card. You must not get sick also because you will have to cover the medical cost of injuries and death caused by irresponsible motorists on our roads and di injuries and deaths caused by di dutty criminal dem! The sad thing is that many people have no insurance, especially the elderly. Mi a beg oonu, no get sick.
Thanks to those who called and sent messages to find out how things went at the hospital. I appreciate your concerns and your love. Spread the love and make it infectious.

Vernon, it seems your now OK. Great,!! Medical costs are just over-the-top. A colonoscopy procedure ( a examination not an operation) is over $200,000.00. SMH
