| Pope Frances |
Pope Francis died on Easter Monday. He is the first non-European pope in over 1000 years. He was 88 years old.
After a period of mourning, Cardinals under 80 years old will meet to select the next pope. I expect people to be at the Vatican looking to see the the colour smoke which will indicate that the cardinals have made their decision.
The Vatican is a state similar to any other country with its security an financial system.

Oh my could it be a warning.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the Pope himself couldn't take the global confusion anymore and decide to call it quits.
Did he have to get a permit from heaven/God to exit his
physiological existence.
Condolences to his catholic Church ,the Vatican and his family.
It should be noted that it was the Spanish who brought Catholicism to Jamaica around 1492 -1494 on the arrival of Columbus with Spanish colonization. It was during this period that Jews arrived here around 1530 onwards. It is still suspected that Columbus was Jewish but claimed Portuguese to escape the Spanish inquisition of Jews during the period.
As a reminder if one looks at the 21 families document at least 15 of those family names are Jewish. They were among the first business people in Jamaica.
Of note was the Gleaner founded in 1834 by One Asheniem and 2 DeCordova brothers.
That was just before Emancipation from Slavery in Jamaica in 1838
The Spanish rule of Jamaica continued until 1655 when the British captured Jamaica from Spain. The Anglicans /Church of England became a significant feature across Jamaica as every slave community had one.
The British welcomed the Jews during the period and at one point the population rose to over 1000.
Today though the Catholic Church Organization is the wealthiest Church in Jamaica although their population of members has dwindled like every other Church body.
The Catholics still have a strong presence in Education and other areas. The Mt Alvernia High School in Montego Bay and St George's College comes to mind.
Jamaicas history is intertwined with Catholicism and the pope.
Condolences to his family👹
