Report From A Citizen
1 Picture 1 shows the scene across from Riverton, where they have created a new scrap area across the road since the pandemic.
2 Picture 2 shows along Spanish Town Road near the cemetery. This area is a mini dump. NSWMA is really trying; as they clear these dumps, they are full again. The country's roadways need to be kept better.
3 The NSWMA cleared the area shown in Picture 3, and a 'no dumping' sign was placed there. It makes no difference. This is near the depot.7
Video 7 shows a spot on the bypass cross from the salt factory that has become a mini dump. I have sent it to you, but there have been no changes. It has gotten worse. They then light the garbage. They bring everything from the streets and lanes and dump it there. When it gets too much, which is every day, they light it. No one cares. The garbage truck comes and clears it every week, but if you are not paying attention, you would believe garbage collection is irregular there.8
I believe St. Catherine's people love lighting fires more than people in any other parish. Video 8 shows the bypass from March Pen Road along that stretch.
Picture 9 shows downtown across from the Jamaica Railway. These dumping areas have been around for years. We need to keep our surroundings/country clean
Editor's Note
Let me thank this citizen who took the time to take these pictures showing how people are just throwing garbage all over the urban areas. Political persons and others then blame the NSWMA.
Once again, my suggestion is to appoint garbage inspectors who will capture pictures of these persons dumping garbage illegally. The guilty persons should be ticketed and pay a fine of JAD 200,000, which should be used to clean up the area. If they cannot pay, then they should be required to clean up the area over three months.
Jamaica needs law and order. Those who do not comply to the laws should pay dearly for their actions.

While this dumping is untenable there should be a way for householders to get rid of old appliances etc that doesn't cost a fortune.
ReplyDeleteHouseholders must take the responsibility to get rid of their garbage that cannot be collected by the garbage trucks. Too many people looking for a free ride.
ReplyDeleteIt seems they're just importing all these appliances with no plans on how people are going to dispose if them when they stop working, it can be that the roadways should be the dumping site for all these thing.
ReplyDeletePeople don't want their bed and matrass anymore straight out on the road side them end up , and if the truck doesn't take them up they light them at the light post or under the light wire, they're not choosing an appropriate area to light them K.M.T , I wonder if the people incharge don't travel the same roads we the average citizens travel and see what's is taking place 🤔 some back bush that I traverse looks better than our towns and cities. And citizens we must do better mon,
Let's work along side NSWMA and keep our country clean , stop cutting down trees and just draw the branches go line the road ways, I could go on and on. Bless up yourself everytime Sir Derby
