The Real Reason For The Bus Stoning!

Jamaica seems to be doing better these days financially. Growth in the economy is nothing to sing and dance about, but better days are here. There has been more emphasis on the maintenance of infrastructure, but the cries of the people tell you that far more needs to be done.

Transportation challenges have been a sore point in the country for a long time. Let's listen to what sociologist Michael Spence has to say.

Why are people stoning the buses? The are stoning buses that have been paid for by taxpayers' money. Is it because of politics, bad-minded people, people being evil, or those who take the bus, love to travel in these damaged buses?

More cars mean more gas bills, more foreign exchange, more for maintaining our vehicles, and less disposable income for us.

Over the years, people have become proud to own a car. The saying is more man have gal, and more man have car. It is probably easier to get a loan from the bank  to purchase a car, rather than getting a loan to pay for medical expenses.

How should we deal with these challenges?

I am surprised that there have been very few reactions and very few responses as comments to my blog about the stoning of these buses. Apparently, this is no big thing, and the people of the country are happy with the stoning. We do have some barbaric people in this country, and I don't see how we can build a better country together. The churches, Jamaica for Justice, civil society, and others have suddenly gone quiet.

What do you think? Do you care? If you care, what must be done to cauterize challenges like this one?

The original transporters must be brought into the mix of solutions now.
Going forward a better Jamaica transport plan is needed from Donkey transport in Port Morant and other places to bike Taxi in West End Negril ,Westmoreland.

  3. Until we begin to emancipate ourselve from mental slavery bus stoning and more lawlessness will continue. As a man thinks in his heart so is he. Most Jamaican's need to think higher.

  4. I keep saying that if we want to change Jamaica, we must begin by resocializing our young people while they are a captive audience in school. A resocialization and behaviour modification programme is needed now to stem the dysfunctionality and disorder in our society. It is easier to influence people to do bad than to do good. If you want the latter, you usually have to employ some structured and intentional intervention programme. This should be done by persons traned to do so and not by the teachers. More persons need to consider offering themselves to be involved in a mentorship programme to help rescue our youth.
