Trelawny, Jamaica  — The residents of Stewart Town in Trelawny have been grappling with a severe water shortage for nearly two months, with no end in sight. Despite the ongoing crisis, there has been little concrete action to address the urgent needs of the community.

Over the past eight weeks, residents have faced daily hardships as they struggle to access clean water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. The situation has worsened, leaving many households dependent on limited water supplies and unsafe sources.

While some political figures have been making headlines, the community’s calls for practical solutions remain unanswered. South Trelawny Member of Parliament, Marisa Dalrymple, has been seen erecting thousands of dollars worth of billboards and flags throughout the constituency. While these efforts may promote visibility, they have done little to alleviate the immediate water crisis.

Community members have voiced their frustration, urging MP Dalrymple to prioritize tangible assistance specifically, the trucking of water directly into their communities. Many argue that such measures could provide immediate relief and ease the pressure on residents who are suffering without access to basic necessities.

Meanwhile, the People's National Party (PNP) candidate for Trelawny, Paul Patmore, has voiced strong criticism of the current representation. He stated, “The lack of proper leadership and action from our current MP is unacceptable. It’s time for Marisa Dalrymple to step aside and allow someone who genuinely cares for the people to represent Stewart Town and the wider community. The residents deserve more than just symbolic gestures they need real solutions now.

As the water crisis persists, community leaders and residents continue to call for urgent intervention from government authorities. The time for empty promises has passed; what Stewart Town needs now is decisive action to restore access to clean, reliable water.
