Dr Horace Chang, General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party is commending two women within the Jamaica Labour Party for their recent accomplishments within the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

He first commended House Speaker the Most Honourable Juliet Holness, who has been appointed to serve on the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) International Executive Committee as a Representative for the Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region.
The appointment took effect on October 12, 2025, following the Commonwealth Parliamentary conference (CPC) held in Barbados, where Mrs. Holness led a delegation comprised of the government opposition and parliamentary staff. The position will hold for three years, and this is the first time that Jamaica has been appointed to serve at this level within the CPA.

The General Secretary, has also observed that the CPA has awarded Hon Oliva Babsy Grange, the 2025 Commonwealth Parliamentary Equality and Diversity Award.’ ‘In recognition of her work of advancing gender equality and social justice in Jamaica’,
Chang who is also Deputy Prime Minster, went on underscore the fact that this award to Minster Grange in recognition for her role as Leader for Gender Affairs and the appointment of the Speaker as tendered, highlights Member Holness’s Direction and Leadership in managing the House of Representatives and Grange’s outstanding parliamentary leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion.
He commended, the resilient leadership of these two women as legislators and leaders in their own right and said ‘this is symbolic of the trend which the party wishes to foster and encourage amongst young women who we encourage to choose to join the ranks of representatives and legislators within the chambers of our parliament .’
