Significantly more support is needed, though, to make Bark Di Trute profitable. At this time, it is a labour of love. It is also used very effectively to hold people accountable. We are now developing the distinction of sharing news first, and in one case, we were the first to share an international news item.
Be informed by reading Bark Di Trute. It is interesting to note that there is far more overseas support for Bark Di Trute than we have in Jamaica.
We have been able to assist many Jamaicans here and overseas. I believe one of our greatest achievements is setting up an 'Emergency Alert Broadcast System' (EABS) for the JCF, the Meteorological Service, the Fire Brigade, NSWMA, and ODPEM. We have teamed up with media houses and media personalities to assist these organizations in getting important information to the public as it happens.
During the period before and during Hurricane Melissa, Bark Di Trute produced and presented over 50 weather bulletins. We also highlighted the danger of the most powerful hurricane to hit our shores in recorded history.
We could not do all of this without the moral support of many people. Thanks to those who contributed articles and those experts who are always willing to give advice and contribute material. Thanks to those who took personal interest in me and often called to tell me to go to bed. Thanks to those who take the time to read the articles.

ReplyDeleteDEAN of DISCIPLINE could BREED MORE INDISCIPLINE
ReplyDeleteDiscipline in a school setting is not simply about enforcement.
It has to be a way of life "culture" of a people that is bought into by most of the students, parents surrounding communities and by extension the country.
Discipline in a school setting refers to the rules, practices, and procedures put in place to maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment.
This includes measures to prevent and address misbehavior, such as:
1. Establishing clear expectations and consequences
2. Encouraging positive behavior
3. Implementing consequences for misbehavior (e.g., detention, suspension)
4. Supporting students in developing self-regulatory skills
Effective school discipline must therefore aim to promote social, emotional, and academic growth and stability, while ensuring a productively respectful environment for all students, teachers, grounds men, cooks like Ms Mattie who used to prevent seconds with her big spoon, matrons, nurses and others in and around the school.
For any culture to become embedded there must be a program to ensure socialization ie "taking on the appropriate behaviour aims and objectives" within the school.
This process must begin before or as one sets foot in the institution
"disce aut discede" a Latin phrase i learned the first days of school
LEARN OR LEAVE was the motto.
Dean of Discipline a backward move.
