There is insufficient information being circulated that can empower people, and as a result, fake information has taken over social media. Several people in Jamaica and the world now consume the fake information and treat it as fact. I want to thank those professionals who are helping to Bark Di Trute. Recently, there was a post telling us that scientists predicted that based on information they had, there was going to be a powerful earthquake in Jamaica. I consulted with Professor Simon Michell at the UWI, Mona Campus in Jamaica, and he said,
"This stems from a video that supposedly says a survey has found a crack from Melissa. The original video was put together to sound professional. But the data it reports could not have been collected in the time since Melissa passed by. It would take a crew months to organise, get permits, collect data, and analyse data. So it is fake news."
Dr. Barbara Carby, former head of ODPEM, in reacting to the video and Professor Michell's comments, sent the following audio:
